As I was gazing out in the small clock tower, looking down at London, the little lights from the buildings illuminating the night, the stars painted on the sky. Footsteps were coming down the stairwell. As instinct, I hid behind with my gun drawn. Instead, I heard the muffled cry of a girl. From what I could see with the minimum amount of light provided from the moonlight, her bring blue eyes shone, she had the eyes of a doe. They were the same eyes I was captivated in at the party. Part of me wanted to go and comfort her, but I held back. My senses activated as she gripped onto the railing, kicking one foot up. I burst from my hiding place, running to her before it was too late.
She was startled by my sudden appearance but the moon reflected off her tear-stained face. I wiped then away as I helped her back from the railing, away from it.
"Why are you here?" She asked, her voice cracking
"Why were you about to jump?" I replied, wondering why myself
"If you're here to insult me then just leave, I don't want to deal with you"
"Then I guess I'm staying" I whispered
"Please, I don't want to see you now" She said, trying to sound strong
"You don't have to be alone" I insisted, trying to hide the hurt I felt at her words
I saw her guard crumbling apart, as she broke into sobs, spilling buckets of tears. I held her closer to me, her tears now draining my shirt. By the time her sobs were silenced, the small room grew quiet, the only sounds heard were our soft breathing. Her eyes were bloodshot red, I felt helpless in this situation.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this" She said, breaking the silence with the voice cracking on each word.
"We all have demons"
"I'm sorry" Sighed Brooklyn, getting up from my grasp
"You don't have to apologise"
"Its fine, I'm sorry, I'll go" She said turning around and leaving, clearly embarrassed
"Wait" I said shocked by my own words "It's dark, I'll drop you off"
"Oh, please its fine"
"Was it a question, nope" I said turning around and leaving, sensing her smile from behind me
"Fine, wait up" She said coming with me
"I win" I smirked, trying to cheer her up which was working, I clearly needed therapy.
For once, I was happy that I parked far away, as selfish and sick as it sounds. What was I doing? I had no clue. The better part was we had to go through an alley to make sure we weren't spotted.
"So do you do this all the time?" She asked, a hint of humor in her voice. To my shock, she seemed fine, like she didn't just mentally break down in my arms. Was she always used to hiding her emotions like this, how could a person do it that well?
"Do what?"
"Be nice"
"No, it's a one-time thing" I chuckled
"I'm flattered" She replied sarcastically
"So you go to the tower a lot?" I asked
"Yeah, I read up there all day"
