ℝ𝔸𝕀ℕ𝔼I groaned as I looked up at the large building in front of me, the sun gleaming off of the polished windows. I could feel my stomach start to twist and turn with anxiety the closer I got to the front door, the smell of coffee hitting me strong as I walked through the large glass double doors. I watched as people in suits and ties bustled around, a security guard sitting behind the front desk with the clerk, making small talk.
I felt extremely underdressed in my cardigan and skinnies, but I wore what I felt comfortable in, and it's not like I'm interviewing to be a lawyer, I'd just be an intern. If I get it that is. And the pressure is on to get this position. This law firm is one of the best in the state, and this internship would do me so much good on my resume. Plus, it's a paid internship, and they pay pretty well compared to other intern programs in the area. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I plan on taking it.
On top of all that, my parents are watching my every move. They've always been a little overbearing, but it seems to get worse the closer I get to graduation. If I don't get this internship they're going to be on my ass, and that's the last thing I need this year. I need my junior year to go smoothly, and this job was the first step to a great year. Hell, it could be the first step to my career if I play this the right way and make the right connections. This is a big boy life move, and I can't jack this up.
I nervously toyed with the beaded bracelet on my left wrist, walking up to the security desk. "Um, excuse me?" I said timidly. The guy looked up, a small smile appearing on his lips.
"How may I help you?" He asked.
"Um, I'm here for the first round of intern interviews." I stated. The clerk lady pushed him to the side playfully, typing on her computer. I noticed a small rectangular name tag, glistening in the light with her name on it.
"Alrighty you see that elevators over there?" She said, pointing to the left of her. I looked over and saw three large elevators. "Take it up to the twelfth floor, and you'll see Ava at her desk there, she'll direct you from there."
"Thank you." I said quickly, walking over to the elevators. I pressed the up button, waiting patiently for the elevator. A bunch of men and women in suits filed out of the elevator, a few of them pushing past me roughly. I stepped into the elevator, clicking the button for floor twelve.
I pulled my messenger bag farther up on my shoulder, looking up at the numbers as they went up slowly. Ah, I'm so nervous. I hope they like me.
The doors finally opened, and I was met with a bustling office. People walking back and forth, lawyers on their phones, people taking calls, the familiar whirring of an overworked printer going off in the background. I stepped out of the elevator, a few people stepping in as I did so. I was met with a large desk to my right adorned with photos and a couple of live plants, and past there was a short hallway leading to a large door that had "CEO" on the front of it in large white letters. Directly in front of me was a small waiting area, three small grey couches and a glass coffee table with magazines stacked up for guest entertainment. There was a large area rug with an abstract design on it in navy blues and white colors. And to the left we're all the the cubicles and doors along the wall that I assumed led to conference rooms and other offices.
There were a few people seated in the waiting area, all dressed in their button ups and skirts and blazers, one girl in a floor length sun dress, the colors stunning against her complexion. I once again, felt under dressed. I mean it's not like I'm coming to be a lawyer, I just wanted to look cute yet comfortable. I guess I should've dressed more "professionally".
