When we got back to the table our food was being served, which I thanked God for, at least they won't be able to ask questions with their mouth full of food.
Alexi pulled my chair out for me, making sure I was sitting comfortably before he took his seat. He's been amazing through this, at least on his end this is going well. I couldn't ask for more really, he is the best. I'll have to thank him for today.
We all began to eat our food, me eating some delicious stuffed ravioli. When kept up small talk as we ate, the usual questions about school, work, the weather, and my roommate, which I've noticed I haven't seen too much of lately.
My dad and Alexi chatted about some business stuff, which made me smile. My dad tends to get overshadowed by my mother a lot of the time, he's the complete opposite of her strong headed personality, so he like to just be in the background supporting my mother. But I guess that's why they go so well together.
After our food was eaten and the wine was drank, we were all full bellied and ready to hit the road. I can admit, it was nice sitting down with my parents and having a meal together. Once I got a bit of freedom I practically ran away from them, I'm starting to think maybe I ran a little too far too fast. I should spend more time with them.
Oh! Almost forgot." Alexi said, pulling the gifts out from under the table. "I wanted to get you guys something, as a thank you for trusting me with your son. They're gifts, so don't try to return them, please keep them."
"Oh my gosh!" My mom gasped, practically snatching the designer bag from Alexi. She opened up the box, and inside was a gorgeous cross body bag, with that familiar pattern. "You shouldn't have, thank you so much!"
Damn, I want one. Maybe if I'm good I can convince him to get me a bag, or few...
"Of course." Alexi said smiling. After Alexi received a thousand more thank you's we finally made our way into the foyer.
"I'm going to pull the car around, wait here where it's warm." Alexi said, leaning down to kiss me on the cheek. Then he turned to my parents, shaking their hands again and thanking them for coming. He went out the door, my dad deciding to do the same so my mom wouldn't have to be in the cold. Which just left my mom and I.
"Raine."
"Don't start mom." I warned. She sighed, crossing her arms in that way all judgy moms do.
"I'm just worried Raine. This is a wealthy man with a lot of power over you emotionally and in the work place. I don't want this to end badly for you, it would have a lot more consequences than your last relationship." She said, pulling her cardigan closed.
"You think I haven't had my own doubts about him? I'll admit I was iffy about him in the beginning, but he doesn't have Ill intentions mom. I mean what exactly would he be using for? I'm a broke college student." I said. The only thing he would get out of me is twelve dollars cash and some ramen noodle packs, I think I'm in the clear.
"Your body." My mom said. Of course she would think of something like that. I mean, he does use my body, just not in a bad way...
"I get that you're worried, but Alexi isn't like that. He takes good care of me." I reassured her. "I'm happy."
"You look it. All decked out in beautiful jewelry." She said, eyes the bracelets on my wrist. "But just because a man can buy you nice things, doesn't mean he has good intentions."
"Then give me that Louis bag back if you don't want it." I challenged. She clutched the gift bag closer to her. Yeah that's what I though, she better hold onto that bag tight.
