Screams. All I heard were screams. At first I thought they were someone else's, but no, they were mine.

My screams filled my ears as Alexi doubled over, clutching his side. With a shaky hand he pulled his hand away, to reveal his palm covered in blood, droplets falling onto an already red carpet. "Shit." he cursed, stumbling a few feet backwards, dragging him with me causing me to trip over my ridiculously high heels.

"Alexi!" I wailed, trying my best to hold him up as he began to collapse to the ground. Despite me trying with all of me, he still fell with a grunt, still clutching onto his side as blood continued to spill out.  I kicked my shoes off quickly, putting my clutch down and crouching next to him.

"A shooter!" Someone screamed, causing the chaos to heighten. Everyone around us was scrambling, grabbing their loved ones and shoving their way inside the building. It was aggressive, everyone going into pure survival mode, not caring who gets hurt in the process. If not for the adrenaline running through me I'd probably feel the knees and feet that battered me as they flooded past us, but I didn't care.

"I got you, I'm right here." I said, adjusting where I was so my body covered most of his . I pressed my gloved hand on top of his, trying my best to make sure didn't lose too much blood. He winced in pain, but it made the bleeding slow a bit. We need help, I wont be able to hold onto this forever.

"I'm sorry Raine, I fucked up." Alexi groaned.

"Stop trying to talk." I instructed, looking to see the security guards try their best to direct people inside. "You don't have to apologize, you're hurt."

"Raine, we need to get you both out of here." A rugged looking man with dirty blonde hair broke through the swarm, coming up to us. He wore a bullet proof vest, the word "police" across his chest in big bold letters.

"Who are you?" I asked the man as EMT's began to surround us, blocking us off from getting bruised any further. A young man moved my hand and Alexi's, pressing down on his wound with what looked like gauze, causing him to grunt loudly in pain. I grabbed his hand tightly, looking at him. "I'm here, I'm here."

"I'm detective Bowen. We have apprehended the suspect, it's safe. We need  to get him to a hospital immediately." He said as the began putting him onto a gurney, my hand staying firmly locked with Alexi's as they moved him. I  snatched my shoes and clutch up off the ground, scurrying behind the EMT's as they brought him towards the ambulance.

"Who...who did this?" I asked the detective, my brain trying to focus on too many things at once. How does Alexi know this man, does Alexi know who did this to him? Why didn't he tell me about what was going on? Will he be okay? He lost a lot of blood...

"Raine..." Alexi said weakly, squeezing my hand, bringing me back to earth. I took in several deep breaths, trying my best to ground myself. I have to be strong in this moment, now is not the time to panic.

"I'm right here my love." I said to him. "You're going to be okay."

"We need to move, let's go." One of the EMT's said, prepping themselves to lift and load him into the emergency vehicle. The detective grabbed my arm, pulling me towards him a bit roughly. They loaded Alexi up, slamming the vehicles doors closed in my face

"Hey!" I yelled, snatching my arm away from him. "I want to go with them, I want to be with Alexi!"

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to get you out of the way. I know you're nervous, but we're close to the hospital, he'll be fine. Just let them do their jobs." He said, trying his best at a what I think is supposed to be a reassuring face. "I'll take you in the police cruiser, lights on and everything."
