Dahyun's POV
After a long time of running, chasing, and losing Malcolm, he finally stopped running as we stood in the middle of a park a bit far from where we were just in.
I inhale and exhale deep breaths as all that running made me feel exhausted.
"M-Malcolm, y-you need to stop" I say between breaths as I limp towards him.
"Dahyun..." Malcolm mumbled as he looked at me with a face that resembled a man who had given up on everything.
"What did I do? Did I do something wrong?" He asked as his voice cracked as well as a piece of my heart because I couldn't bear to see him like this.
"Malcolm...come on, let's sit down" I replied as he followed me sit down on one of the benches.
His eyes wandered the night sky as if he was looking for an answer. An answer we both knew would never come.
"Mal..."
"Maybe I lacked something...?" He started.
"Did that guy have something I didn't?"
"Mal-"
"What did I lack?"
"Mal-"
"Did I not love her enough?"
"Mal-"
"Maybe I wasn't enough for her?"
"Malcolm-"
"What did I do?!"
"Malcolm! Please!" I shouted in frustration which got his attention and stopped himself from all these questions he asked himself.
"Dahyun...what did I do wrong?" He asked again before breaking down into tears.
I placed my hand on his back and rubbed circles to act as comfort as I gave him time to release all the emotions he had.
"I-I don't really know why Chae would do that. Y-You're a really nice guy and I don't see why there's any reason why-"
"Was I not enough for her? Was it because that guy was more handsome and richer than me?" He said as tears build up in the corner of his eyes.
"I...I don't know. But Malcolm, you shouldn't blame yourself for any of it, okay?"
"I know it hurts a lot right now but you shouldn't think that it's your fault. I-I'll talk to her about this. But please, Malcolm, you're a really nice person and you're my...best friend"
"I've known you for how long now and I know you never lacked anything nor did anything wrong. It's not your fault, okay?" I reassured him with a faint smile.
The corner of his lips formed a curve and slight smile was on his lips once again.
"T-Thanks, Dahyun. I...I really needed that" He smiled.
"It's okay, hey, you're not alone, okay? I'm here for you. Cheer up, hmm?" I smiled back before pulling him into an embrace.
I heard a sniffle come from before I pulled away. The low audible sounds of cars honking and the sounds of crickets filled the quiet night as we looked at each other as we were only a few inches away from one another.
His eyes were shining from the street lights as well as the shine of the Moon as what used to be tears were like diamonds now.
Maybe it was the wind that was pushing us closer or whatever force of attraction it was that closed the gap between us inch by inch. It felt natural.
As our faces were a few centimeters from one another...
"I-uh, think we should go now. What do you think" Malcolm suddenly pulled and looked away.
"Ah, yeah, I-I think we should" I quickly replied as I pulled myself together.
We stood of from the bench and left the park. We didn't say a word to each other due to the awkward moment we just had.
What was that? Did it really happen? Did it almost happen?
The thoughts on my head distract me as the scene from earlier lingered.
But the memory fades as I was quickly pulled back to reality. Literally, as Malcolm held my wrist and stopped me from almost getting in a car accident.
"Yah! Dubu! Are you okay?" He asked as he looked at me with concern.
"Uh, yeah! I'm sorry. I dozed off" I chuckled, nervously.
"You better be careful. You almost became a flat tofu" He laughed which made me pout.
I'm glad he's happy again
"Oh, please. You almost get into car accidents more than I do!" I rebutted.
"I saved you from those more than I had any" He chuckled.
The positive energy soon came back as we were having a fun conversation from teasing one another, mostly me, and talking about other funny times.
I did everything to make sure that what happened earlier does not get brought up and I made sure I didn't mention her name either as I knew that inside, he was still hurting.
We got to my house and I fiddled with my keys before opening the front gate to my house. I turned around to meet hus gaze once again.
"So...I guess this is good night" He chuckled.
"Yeah, good night" I giggled.
"H-Hey, Dubu. I just want to say thank you...for being there earlier for me. You really helped a lot" He said as he gave me a sincere smile.
"I'll always be here for you, pabo" I smiled as I stopped myself from shedding tears by giving him another hug.
His hand patted my back as I hugged tighter.
I wish this didn't have to end
But like all good things, the hug came into an end as we both pulled away from one another.
"I'll go on ahead. Good night, Dubu" He smiled.
"Yeah, be careful on your way and good night" I smiled back before he nodded and started walking off.
I went inside the house and was met with my dog barking in excitement.
Malcolm's POV
I got home after a while of walking and when I got home, I immediately did my night routine.
I was now on my bed as I contemplated whether or not to message Chaeyoung. I saw the clock and saw how late it was already. I turned off my phone and put it under my pillow before adjusting myself and I was now staring at the ceiling.
The memory from earlier plays and a smile couldn't help but form on my lips.
Was she always that beautiful up close?
