Chapter Twenty Nine: Skipping

Trigger Warning: mentions of anxiety

"I love you too," Finn says to me softly. A smile spreads across his face that makes me smile too.

He leans in towards me and plants a kiss on my forehead.

"Now, whaddya say we get back to class?" Says Finn, grinning from ear to ear.

"I guess so," I respond, not wanting to go back.

As we walk towards our classroom, Finn slips his hand into mine. My shoulders relax and I realize just how much I've missed Finn, even if it was a short period of time. As we approach our classroom, he stops. Finn looks at me and kisses the top of my head.

"I'm gonna let you go in first, I'll come in after so it doesn't look weird," he whispers to me, a wide smile on his face.

"What, so you're embarrassed of me or something?" I jokingly respond.

"What! No Dani, I,"

"I'm kidding, Wolfhard. I'll see you in a minute," I giggle, smiling wide at him and entering the room.

Everyone's eyes turn up to me from their papers, and I feel my face flush. I keep my eyes down and return to my work, fighting the urge to smile. It feels like the entire school knows what had happened between Finn and I in the last few days. As I've found out through Finn and I's initial friendship, people are nosy. I can't imagine how curious people are now after even more drama was added the the story.

Finn walks back into the room and casually sits down beside me. I can feel the class's eyes looking in our direction, and I suddenly feel anxious. I look down at my paper and close my eyes. It seems like Finn picked up on my energy,  when suddenly I feel him lean the slightest bit towards me on my side of the shared table. I open my eyes and look towards him, and see his curls. I watch as Finn's head lies on the table as he writes away his assignment. I smile to myself, relieved that everything worked out and we are back together.

"What are you doing?" He asks gently, sitting upright and making eye contact with me.

"Just looking," I answer. "It's like I almost forgot how curly your hair is or something."

"Well, you better take a good, long look," he replies, a closed smile resting on his lips.

I roll my eyes and turn back to my own paper. I continue to write out my answers, and think about how nice it is to just be in Finn's calming presence again. Despite him being a retired fuckboy, I've always felt a lot calmer being next to him since we've gotten to know each other.

"Let's get out of here," Finn suddenly whispers.

"What do you mean?" I whisper back.

"I don't know, why don't we just go out or something. We can get something to eat and go for a drive," he suggests.

"Well, I don't know, that's skipping. I thought you didn't do that anymore," I tease.

"Well, Daniella, I seem to have committed to your good girl lifestyle, why don't you return the favour and try something that I do for once."

"Who the hell is Daniella?" I laugh.

"Don't try changing the subject, Daniella," he mocks.

"Ugh, fine. You do realize I've never skipped before, right?" I say, whispering the word skipped as if it were a bad word.

"Dani, you're amazing, but damn you have to live a little. When the bell rings for lunch, we are out of here," Finn states.

"Really?" I respond. "Lunch is in five minutes."
