Chapter Fifteen: New and Old Friends

"That's right, princess. He won't stay much longer."

Wyatt's words rang through my head. Why should I believe him?

But at the same time, why shouldn't I? Wyatt kind of has a point. Finn has done this with the other girls and Wyatt has known him for longer.

"Dani," Finn says quietly, gently grabbing my hand from behind me. I turn around sharply, startled.

"Yes?" I say.

"You know Wyatt's lying," he says.

I stare into his big brown eyes, looking for something. I can feel everyone staring at the two of us. I look around at all of the other students. Why can't they mind their own business?

"Finn, I cant do this right now," I whisper, looking at our intertwined hands.

"Oh, okay," he says quietly, letting go of my hand. "I'm sorry."

I painfully watch him walk away back to the table and pick up his bag. He exits the cafeteria immediately.

What have I done? Why would I say that?

"See that, sweetheart? Already gone," Wyatt smirks in my ear.

I spin around and look him in the eye.

"You are cruel," I say in disgust.

"Whatever, loser," he laughs.

I walk away before I can react and pick up my bag. I don't know where I'm headed, but it'll be better as long as I'm far from the cafeteria.

I exit the cafeteria distracted, clearly not paying any attention to anything. My mind comes back to the real world when I suddenly see a tall figure in front of me that I cant dodge in time. I accidentally trip over their leg and fall to my knees.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" They say. I look up to see who it is.

Caleb McLaughlin.

"Yeah, I'm just fine. I should be the one apologizing!" I exclaim, accepting the hand he holds out to pull me up.

"No, don't even worry about it!" He says with a smile. "Now, how can I make it up to you?"

"Oh goodness, it's really fine!" I say with a small blush.

"Dani, I feel terrible. Can I buy you something to eat or drink?" He offers.

"Seriously Caleb, it's okay! And I just ate," I lie.

"Are you sure? I just feel so bad if I hurt you or something."

"Absolutely positive. Thank you though," I smile.

"Okay fine. I'll see you in math," he says smiling.

"See you soon." I wave goodbye as he enters the cafeteria.

I decide to go and find Paige and Alyssa. I haven't talked to them in a while and I feel bad about it. Surely they are in our usual lunch spot, near Alyssa's locker.
