BAD DAY
-Part Ⅰ: Telephone Trouble
kate hid behind a tree without making any noise. elijah and denis were standing by the lake, throwing rocks into it while looking at each other with playful eyes and talking from time to time.
"so, that promposal was a shitshow huh?" elijah chuckled.
"a complete shit show." denis said.
kate felt tears trying to escape her eyes again but she had to stay focused on the boys conversation.
"that's what happens when you don't plan your promposal and ask the person in advance." elijah stated.
denis didn't seem to agree, "what if you wanna surprise them?"
elijah chuckled, "yes you can but it's very risky, you don't wanna end up like that kate chick."
"what if i'm a risk taker though?" denis hugged elijah from behind.
"that's you're problem." he said.
kate felt like she was third wheeling on a date, all of this romance crushed her heart but she knew she was here on a mission, she didn't have time to dwell upon her feelings.
"my problems are you're problems too." said denis.
"why? are you that bad at getting rid of them?" elijah asked and their laughs echoed in the empty forest.
they had a peaceful moment, it was dead silent and the only thing loud were the thoughts in kate's mind. is this gonna be worth it or will elijah keep rubbing salt over her wounds? she wondered.
"i wanna share something with you, i don't know who else to talk to about this and i'd consider this serious." denis broke the silence.
"say anything you want! you're always free to share what you're feeling with me." elijah made denis feel comfortable.
denis sighed and clenched his fists, "as you know my dad is an asshole, a trigger happy man with a shotgun. that's old stuff, the thing is he's been doubting me a lot lately and i'm scared."
that was some valuable information which made it's way to kate's ears. it was worth it to follow them into the forest after all.
"it's okay if you wanna lay low to avoid any suspiscions, i can go without smelling that horrendous axe for a week or so." elijah hugged denis.
kate's eyes travelled to the ground, denis had dropped the handkerchief while hugging elijah back.
"i don't smell of axe! who told you that!!" denis got defensive.eljah giggled, "you used to be a douchebag, of course i know the first thing you do in the morning is to lather yourself in axe deodrant."
kate snuck in and picked up the handkerchief, she got out of there without making any sounds. she got what she wanted, it was time for revenge.
denis laughed, "you know what you smell like? strawberries."
"stay with me, you'll start smelling like strawberries too."
denis deepened the hug, "of course, I would never turn down a offer like that."
"what? staying with me?" elijah asked.
"no, smelling like strawberries." he replied.
both the boys chuckled and watched the sunset in each other's arms.
-
kate reached home and threw her shoes against the wall, the same place where she left her school bag under.
