TWO|BILLY HARGROVE
Bernadette pushed open the classroom door, ignoring the stares from her peers as she quietly wandered into the class and sat at her desk. After the entire school found out about her now ex-boyfriend cheating on her she had become the main subject of gossip.
World History was nowhere near the top of her list of subjects she enjoyed but she tolerated it enough for an easy pass. Her attention was pulled to the teacher as he announced to the class that they would be partnering up for the next project and he would be pulling names from a hat.
"Miss. Harrington." The class went silent, all holding their breath as they prayed their name was picked. "And Mr. Hargrove."
Birdie glanced around the room, her eyes landing on the new boy sat across the room, his baby blues already focused on her. She smiled at the boy, sending him a small wave before going back to watching the teacher pair everyone up.
She gathered up her books, holding them in her arms before marching up to Billy Hargrove and standing before his desk.
"We can work on our project after school at your house, I'll meet you at your car." She walked away before he could protest, already debating what they could work on.
Bernadette waited by his car after school, leaning against the bonnet as she lit the cigarette between her lips. She breathed in the toxic air, watching Billy walk over to his car through her pink tinted sunglasses.
"I hope you weren't waiting long, beautiful." He smirked at her, pulling his sunglasses down his nose to wink at her. "We just have to wait for my step-sister."
"You must love her so much." Birdie said sarcastically after hearing his annoyed tone when mentioning his step-sister.
"Smoking is bad for you." Billy took the cigarette from her, putting it between his lips. His smirk grew as he noticed her staring at his lips as he leaned his hand beside her, faces inches apart.
"Let's go!" A small ginger girl bolted up to the car, not noticing the pair of teenagers flirting on the car bonnet.
"Be grateful I waited for you." He grumbled at the young girl, getting into his car and slamming the door behind him.
Billy sped out of the car park, his loud music and roaring engine startling all students to move out the way. His eyes stayed glued on the road, ignoring the curious girl beside him.
"I'm Birdie, by the way." Birdie introduced herself to the silent girl in the back seats. "I have a class project to work on with your brother."
"Max." The ginger girl looked up at Birdie confused, not understanding why she was being so kind.
"You skateboard? That's so cool." She complimented the girl, noticing the skateboard beside her. "My brother tried to teach me how to skateboard when I was ten. It didn't end up well. I sprained my wrist and ankle just before summer. It healed quickly but I swore to never get on a skateboard again. Ended up becoming a cheerleader where I now get worse injuries."
"Come on." Billy grumbled as he pulled up outside his house, trying to get Birdie to stop talking to his step-sister as he led her into the quiet house.
"Your room must be the one that smells like musky perfume and cheap sex." Birdie commented, chuckling at his shocked reaction before walking into his room and sitting on the bed. "So, we need to make a presentation on a historical figure from another country."
"Or we could do something else." He looked at her suggestively, standing at the end of the bed as he removed his coat.
"We can do that another time, right now I want to get this presentation finished so I can get back to planning a routine for cheer." She shot down his suggestion instantly, laying her history books on the bed before flicking through one.
Billy reluctantly sat down beside her, grabbing a textbook and reading over the pages. The pair worked together quickly, neither noticing the sun had quickly set but their presentation was finished.
"I better get home before Steve starts getting worried." Birdie stretched her arms above her head, feeling her cropped shirt slid up her body. "Thanks for helping get this done in a day."
"Come on, I'll drive you home." Billy offered, throwing his coat over his shoulders and grabbing his keys.
"I'm just going to quickly go to the toilet." She wandered out the room, bumping into an older woman. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."
"That's quite all right, dear." The woman reassembled Max greatly, Birdie quickly realising she must Billy's step-mother.
"Who is this?" A man rounded the corner, staring intensely at the girl. Hearing the commotion, Billy stepped out his room behind Birdie, noticing the his father and stepmother speaking to Birdie.
"Bernadette Harrington." Birdie introduced herself politely. "I'm a friend of Billys. We were just working on a school project."
"Harrington?" His father questioned, recognising her last name. "Your father is Steven Harrington?"
"Yes." She bit back any remarks directed at her father, knowing she couldn't drag her father's pristine reputation through the mud or he would punish her.
"I better take Birdie home, it's getting late." Billy cut in, grabbing Birdie's wrist and dragging her out the house. "Why were you talking to them?"
"I was just being nice." The rest of the car journey was silent, Birdie pouting in annoyance at his behaviour.
The roaring engine echoed around the streets of Hawkins before stopping abruptly outside the large house. Bridie glanced over at Billy, noticing the large smirk on his lips as he stared at her mouth.
"Thank you for driving me home." Birdie smiled at him, taking off her seatbelt and opening the car door to leave.
Billy reached over, grabbing her arm and pulling her back into the seat. Before she could question his actions, he cupped her cheek and planted his lips on hers. Birdie turned in the seat, leaning in closer to deepen the kiss.
"Enjoy the rest of your evening." He pulled back first, sending her his signature wink as her cheeks flushed bright red.
"You too." Birdie managed to mumble before leaving the car, feeling the cool air on her hot cheeks. She touched her lips gently, thinking back to the kiss they had just shared. Not once did she ever think a kiss could leave her wanting more.
