There for You; Pope Heyward

Summary: Despite having a falling out the night before, Y/N is there for Pope.

Warnings: Slight Swearing, Mentions of SA

Y/N couldn't believe it. Not only did Ward Cameron murder Big John, but John B was crazy enough to try and go after him.

He really should have thought this through, she thought, we could've figured something out.

With Y/N, JJ, and Kie worried about where John B could be and what he could be doing, Pope's mind was elsewhere.

Y/N knew he had his big scholarship interview in the morning, yet here he was, helping her and the rest of the group find John B.

"Pope, you don't have to come along", She started as Pope and her sat together towards the back of the boat. Kie and JJ stood towards the front with JJ driving, "I know you have a lot on your mind and need to prepare for tomorrow."

Pope looked over at her and gave her a tight-lipped smile. Despite trying not to show what he was thinking, she could tell he was appreciative that someone remembered.

She smiled back at him, reaching over to grab his hand, giving it a light squeeze. She wanted to let him know that despite everything going on, she was still thinking about him and was there for him.

"What's tomorrow?", Kie asked as she made her way towards where they sat. Y/N didn't notice that she had been listening to their conversation.

Pope gave her an incredulous look, "My scholarship interview", he replied matter-of-factly, "I've only been talking about it for weeks", he finished sounding agitated.

His fists tightened causing Y/N's grip on his hand to loosen. She saw Kie's eyes shift to her and Pope's hand before her eyes lifted to meet Pope's.

"Sorry", she replied, though she didn't sound too apologetic, "I forgot that it was tomorrow. With everything going on with John B-"

Before Kie could finish her sentence, Pope's shoulders tensed, his eyes narrowed, and eyebrows furrowed. He looked absolutely pissed, but also kind of hot.

Stop it Y/N, now is not the time, she scolded myself.

"Here we go", she heard JJ say as he looked at them, his back beside the steering wheel, his arms crossed with a somewhat bored expression. She didn't realize they arrived at the Cameron's until she looked up and saw the massive house. All lights were on, but no one seemed to be home.

"Of course", she heard Pope snap, her head turned from the house to look at Pope, "it's always about John B", he finished.

Y/N's eyes widened as she heard what Pope said. She never heard him speak in such an angry manner, especially about any of the Pogues. Her eyes then shifted to Kie to gauge her reaction. She looked taken aback, her eyebrows furrowed as she placed her hands on her hips.

"What's that supposed to mean?", she asked, sounding offended.

"It means what I just said", Pope responded, "it's always been about John B. Never JJ. Or me. Or Y/N. Only John B!"

Pope's jaw clenched, his eyes set in a glare as he stared at Kie. Y/N stood up to stand beside Pope, ready to jump in, both verbally and physically, if necessary.

"That's not true", Kie defended, sounding hurt that Pope would assume that, "if any of you were in this situation, we'd all be doing the same thing."

Pope scoffed and rolled his eyes, he turned his head to look at the water. Despite being angry, he didn't want to say something he'd regret.
