𝙺𝙾𝚃𝙻𝙲: 𝙰𝚋𝚒𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝚂𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑 [DISCONTINUED]

Chapter 2 || Ugh, Foster's in a Mood (Obviously Keefe's POV)

Keefe's POV

"Oh my goodness!" a voice that wasn't Foster's screeched from the other side of Havenfield.

"AHHH, HELP MEEEEEE!" another person screamed. That one was Foster!

"What's going on?!" I interrogated Dex.

"How would I know?" he shot back. Feisty this morning, I see. Maybe he didn't get enough sleep. "Let's go check it out."

We jogged over to Havenfield's pastures where Sophie was. Biana was there too. "Oh," I said. "You guys are okay." I might have been hoping to epically and heroically save them from a giant Neverseen attack. Might have. You don't know!

"Hey Keefe! Hi Dex!" Sophie exclaimed with a beautiful grin. "Biana and I were just playing with Verdi." Her beautiful chestnut-colored eyes stared up into my ice blue ones. The golden flecks in the middle of her irises twinkled like stars in a midnight sky. And the sun brought out the natural highlights in her blond hair. And—

"If you heard screaming," Biana remarked, interrupting my thoughts, "it was because Sophie got her arm stuck in between the bars of Verdi's enclosure. She's fine."

"Still clumsy, I see?" I teased.

"Yes, Keefe," Foster said like she was going to lecture me. "You saw me trip on a blade of grass two days ago. Nothing's changed."

"Well something's changed with us," I transitioned.

Dex tilted his head toward my ear and whispered, "Smooth. Keep going."

So I continued talking. "You see, Dex here is trying out something new. He wants to see if he can tell if you're lying or not."

Sophie inhaled sharply at that. "Biana volunteers!" she blurted abruptly, pointing a finger at Bi. (A/N: "Bi" is a nickname for Biana.)

We all looked at Foster, confused. She seemed... suspicious. I even noticed a droplet of sweat crawl down her forehead. What was she hiding? Dex would find out soon enough. 

"Actually, I think I should try it on you first, Sophie," Dex commented. I could tell he had the same idea as me: expose Foster.

"Why me and not Biana?" she asked in a calm manner.

"Because this is my new thing. I think it will be easier to read your emotions— I mean, tell if you're lying because I'm closer with you. You're my best friend. Please?"

Way to sweet-talk her, Dex! You'd think he'd taken a lesson from me— which is a thing, by the way. I give you a lesson on lying, you give me Mallowmelt. Obviously no one's signed up but if you want to, be my guest! (A/N: Abby's gonna be the first one to comment on this paragraph. Hi mustached_avocados!!!)

"Ugh, fine," Sophie groaned, finally giving in. "But only because you're my best friend."

"YES!" I shouted. "I mean, you got this Dex!" Maybe she's hiding the fact that she loves me! (A/N: Or maybe she's hiding the fact that she knows someone who loves Keefe more... *cough* mustached_avocados *cough*)

Dex approached Foster. She stood up from sitting in the grass. Biana backed up toward me to watch. We all stood there until Dex reached out and brushed a finger across Sophie's arm.

"What's wrong?" Dex asked Sophie after he read her emotions. "You seem frightened and worried."

"You're not an Empath!!" she shouted at him.

"Woah... okay. I understand now how you always get overwhelmed with her emotions, Keefe."

"She's not normally like this," I muttered.

"You guys should go," Biana advised, nudging Dex away from Sophie. "I don't know what's going on either. She was fine a minute ago."

"I'M FINE NOW  TOO!!!" Foster screamed.

Everyone stumbled backwards. I felt a chill crawl up my spine.

"Let us have some girl time," Biana told us. "I'm sorry. I don't know what's happening."

"Let's go," Dex said to me. I snatched his hand and we ran away from Havenfield.

A/N:

Thanks for reading up to this point, everyone! I'm going on vacation today but it's only for two days. I won't have Wi-Fi but I'll work on my story in the car on Google Docs. My goal is to write three chapters before I get back home. Then I'll publish them on Monday or Tuesday! Wish me luck!

I couldn't make Keefe call Sophie Foster every time, sorry. I tried it and it sounded really weird. It was like "Foster did this" and "Foster said this" and "Foster came up to me" and it looked wonky. Sorry about that!
