~Gassy's POV~
"How has your Nanners hunt been?" Ze stays silent refusing to say a word causing me to glance over at him, finding him laying down on the ground with his eyes peacefully closed. For a moment I wonder if he's asleep before his eyes flutter open, looking straight forward towards the dark sky before rumbling through the bag of chips he brought today.
"Inconclusive," he finally answers before stuffing a couple of chips into his mouth, a troubled look in his eyes as he looks upwards. As much as I don't want to see him troubled, I'm relieved he hasn't been able to find anything about Nanners, though it does worry me that for the past week since Diction ordered him he hasn't really progressed one bit towards finding where Nanners went. While others may think it's good, it makes me suspicious he is progressing but just not informing me, maybe Diction told him to keep away from me or just to keep the entire investigation a secret from others. For the past week, however, Ze has been completely open to me, coming up here every morning and devoting a bit of time for me everyday. Any outsiders would think we were the most normal couple always meeting and talking, laughing together and smiling together. Of course outsiders don't really understand the really fucked up secrets of this base, my own fucked up secrets Ze will surely be against. Ze closes his eyes again, probably tired from having to get up so early every day for my sake.
"Juggling between that and regular studies with Chilled is a bit hard. Especially since Chilled hasn't fully recovered yet either," he mutters with his eyes still closed, seeming to need the relaxation. I look away and towards the glowing distance, the red colors beginning to travel around the forest line.
"You know you don't have to come up here every morning. The promise was to in the least think of you at this time, if you need the sleep I understand," I explain feeling a bit guilty that he does come up here every day despite his busy schedule. While mine is busy as well, he has a whole lot of shit to deal with between dealing with Chilled, Nanners, me, and Alice who calls him constantly. My mind is still trying to process through Alice's existence and her intentions, trying to accept she's a good friend of Ze's when all I feel is jealousy when she is mentioned. At least she can't be allowed on base and Ze doesn't leave much their only form of communication is talking, which comforts me a great deal while I try to just try to ignore the jealousy.
"No, I mean I like spending the mornings here. It's more relaxing actually, I like spending time with you. It's not like you make me more tired or anything, and I like watching the sun rise," Ze says as he opens his eyes and pulls himself up to a sitting position beside me. His eyes shine as he smiles and peeks over to me, the colors of the sky behind him making him seem just that more attractive. "Besides, we have to make the most of every moment we have together, right? Because who knows when Chilled and I get fired or you have to be sent off somewhere." I nod slowly, understanding way too much how precious time is to us with the constant danger of losing all time together.
"You better not get your ass fired. Just how hard is it to avoid doing anything against the law?"
"We couldn't even last a small vacation without it," Ze says and laughs as his eyes shine with the memories. Him and Chilled didn't last two days without sneaking around and doing their own illegal experiments even with me around. They're both just a load of trouble and they know it, their previous employers also know it having fired them in fear. If anything, I'll have to thank their previous employers because without firing them they would have never found us. I'm not even sure how they found us, we weren't even hiring or thinking of hiring until Diction came up to me one day randomly announcing we have new researchers on base.
"Just try to be careful, Ze," I say worryingly. Ze looks to me with a small smile before suddenly leaning onto my side, his head resting on my shoulder and his eyes looking out into the distance. The sudden act of affection causes me to hesitate, glancing at him but he doesn't pay me any attention as he looks into the distance. As much as I should feel happy at his act it only worries me more, the action that's unlike him make me worry the most after all in the end. Suddenly a loud ring causes both of us to jump and Ze groans, digging through his pockets and getting off of me, pulling out the phone. I frown as the phone clearly glows Alice's name and Ze answers the phone, completely ignoring the fact it is our time of the day.
