~Gassy's POV~

"Nice shot," Diction calls out over the loud noise coming from other guns in nearby booths. I blink before lowering the regular deagle and glance back at Diction, ear muffless and goggleless. I roll my eyes and toss him a nearby pair of goggles someone must have left at this booth before but Diction just plays around with the goggles without actually putting them on before walking up towards me.

"That new scientist is an irritating asshole," Diction comments and I immediately think back on our meetings with the scientists. I've had more interaction with Ze but I don't really know much about Chilled, so Chilled must be the one he's talking about. As far as I can tell Ze is a bit slow but other than that he's completely normal.

"Why? What'd he do?" I ask curiously, mostly because I'm interested in the new scientists and their progress. It's not the first time we've had researchers here but these guys are well known for their research and work in previous bases along with solo work which made them become hired in the first place. Apparently it was their attitude problems which got them kicked out of the previous base but from what I've witnessed they're both pretty kind, or at least not trying to be complete assholes. In particular I've taken an interest in Ze, showing that amusing display of clumsiness on the first night. It also struck something in me when I saw him holding up that bottle of whatever chemical, the shine in his light eyes that he wants to explore more and do something, that excitement was absolutely eye catching and adorable. Knowing we have ambitious researchers is a bit refreshing compared to the depressing new recruits who always look like they just want to quit after the first week. Diction groans in annoyance as he pushes me aside while taking my deagle, holding the gun up towards the far away target.

"It's just Chilled is so cocky and idiotic while still being such a sissy when he should take action. It's annoying," he complains before pulling the trigger on the gun making me wince since he's not even wearing proper ear protection, even as the captain. "I mean I'm pretty sure he's a nice guy but I don't see how he used to be a soldier." I nod, also wondering the same about Ze who also showed close to no traits of a soldier. In order to be a scientist in a base you have to have had at least two years of training and neither of them seem to be showing those traits I earned in my first years. They must have been trained at a lax base, luckily for them.

"I'm sure they'll do fine. As long as they do their work it's fine, right?" Diction sighs but nods, turning to me and handing me back an empty deagle he wasted all the shots in. "Anyways, have you looked into that mission yet?" Diction turns back and takes a seat at the small foldable chair while holding his hands back up to his mouth, his eyes darkening as they become serious.

"Yeah, the only problem is I don't know where it fucking is. We've tried everything and we can't find him. We can't do anything right now and it's frustrating me." I sigh as I look back at him, his frustration something that isn't rare but not preferable on his expression. Setting the deagle down on the booth I bring my ear muffs down to my neck before turning back to him.

"It's fine Diction, we can take as much time as we need to find it. Right now we just need to go full on defense even though you're not used to it. It must have found out about our researchers and it just not like that so it will target our researchers, at least that's what I think."

"So you want to focus defense around Chilled and Ze?" Diction asks seeming to dislike the idea. They're our newest members, I hate the idea of freaking them out by suddenly towering defense around them too but we have to protect them. Plus, the idea that our base is practically being haunted by an enemy we don't even know the gender of isn't the best thing to bring up to the new guys.

"We have no other choice. For now I think we should just do it stealthily but they will find out when it comes. Just keep acting normally while me and Nanners will try to befriend them, we'll become their friends and we'll be like their protectors," I explain my plan, looking to him in hope he won't completely reject my plan like he has done before. After a long moment passes he sighs and nods, seeming to do it very reluctantly but still nods.
