Chapter 29
"Today we get to find out if you are going to have a little sister or a little brother. You are going to go spend some time with Uncle Val and Aunt Jenna while we are there." Meryl is getting Brinley dressed. She didn't want to admit it to anyone but she was nervous.
"Hey Mer?" Maks was calling Meryl from downstairs.
"Yes?"
"Where is Brinley's blanket? We need to make sure they have it so she'll sleep for them."
"I have it up here Maks. I'll bring it down." Meryl finished getting Brinley dressed and grabbed the blanket and the extra outfit she had laid aside. She wanted to have everything they might need. Jenna and Val were going to have her overnight. They were due soon and just wanted to experience a night with a child. Meryl and Maks had loved the idea of having a night to themselves.
"Oh good. Here let me take those. Mer, she is only going for one night. How many outfits does she really need?"
"I know I just, I want to be safe. It's better to pack too much than too little. It makes me feel better."
"As long as it make you feel better. You ready to go?"
"Yes. You grab the bags and I'll go put her in the car. Oh can you grab my purse too" Meryl added as she was already out the door.
"Pregnancy brain" Maks laughed.

"There is my favorite niece" Val says when he opens the door.
"Say 'Uncle Val, I'm your only niece.'" Maks smiles at his daughter.
"Oh do we know that for sure? Was that your way of telling us?"
"Oh no. We don't know yet. I actually have a feeling we are having a girl."
"Maks, can you bring me Brinley's bag. I want to explain to Jenna what we packed."
"Whoa, I thought we were watching her for one night?"
"You are... I went a little overboard but it made me feel better."
Meryl explained all that was in the bag and then they kissed Brinley goodbye and left.
"Are you ready to know for sure what we are having?" Meryl asks Maks in the car on the way to their appointment.
"I am. I want to know if we are having another Princess or a Prince."
"And what kind of dance things we need to buy."
"That too. I guess. And what type of ice skates."
"We are going to let our kids do other sports if the want too right?"
"They can do whatever makes them happy."
"I love you."
"I love you too Princess."
When they get to the doctor's office, Meryl and Maks both take a deep breathe and walk in, hand in hand. They both sit bouncing one of their legs nervously. Neither one is really sure why they are so nervous.
"Meryl?"
"Right here" she says standing up.
"Great! Welcome. Come on back."
Maks took Meryl's hand and followed the nurse to their exam room. He helped her onto the table.
"May I ask, is this your first?"
"No, we have a 1 and a half year old."
"Oh how sweet. Girl or boy?" The nurse is checking Meryl out while she is asking questions.
