A young teenager was walking peacefully in his hometown. As all of humanity, he had no idea what was going to happen. An imposing and terrifying voice spoke to everyone at once. Calling itself a God, the voice explained that it was tired, and had decided to have some fun, by sending an army of monsters to invade the Earth.
Of course, as it wanted to be entertained, it would give mankind a week to be prepared, and would chose randomly someone to be humanity's hero. This chosen one was no one else but the young teenager. Some magical lightning struck him, transcending him.
For the first time in its history, humankind stood as one army. One army that would fight for the survival of all. The teenager was obviously their strongest asset. Having no choice, he quickly got used to his new situation. He would be the main line of defense. The first to face the horror, to fight it.
They knew when and where, but had no idea what would show. The day before the battle, other lightnings struck several people: the teenager's friends. They didn't get one tenth of his power, but no one cared about it: they would still be on the front-line too.

When the time had come, the sun let its place to dark clouds and a giant portal opened. Nothing happened after this for several minutes. The teenagers decided to slowly get closer, trying to figure out what was happening. This is when, suddenly, revolting creatures appeared from the portal, screeching. The young heroes, watching such things, started to panic. Some of them collapsed on the ground while others were throwing up.
The army fired its first salvo, taking down some of the monsters. This was how started the battle for humanity.

The teenagers started to be used to all this, and to fight. Their powers were a great help, especially the chosen one's attacks, but they were outnumbered. Less than a minute was enough to go from some humans dying to thousands of them lying in their own blood.
It's in the middle of this amalgam of death, horror and war that the heroes rushed toward the portal's main crystal. The chosen one would focus on its destruction while his friends would cover him up.

And so they rushed through the hordes of monsters, trying to take down anything they could. When he tried to attack the crystal, it shots back at him. Hit in the chest, pain took over his body. Meanwhile, his friends got submerged. One of them got dismembered and eaten alive. Seeing their friend dying this way, 2 others went mad: one was just calmly crying while being stabbed by monsters, the other was jumping around and laughing, saying it was just a nightmare.
They were only 4 left, trying to protect their friend still hurt. Around them, the battle was still raging. The artillery stopped minutes ago, and the not-trained soldiers had to use their knife to defend themselves. Looking at this, they youngsters tried to take down the portal's crystal.
At this moment, the chosen one stood up, transformed. Parts of his skin had changed, his right eye looked like one of a snake and he now had wings made of flesh. He slowly walked toward his friends, aiming his sword at them. He was trying his best to fight back the corruption within him. But he failed.

He stopped his arm only once his sword was cutting through his friend's brain. Disgusted, he threw his weapon on the ground as what remained inside the friend's skull was running out, and then jumped on the crystal. This made the portal's energy to explode, annihilating anything within dozens of miles.

The teenager was suffering a lot when he awoke in the hospital, tied up to the bed. Military doctors were extracting any corrupted part of his body, not even trying to make the human slices survive. They tore off his wings, taking out his stomach at the same time, as the wings were attached to it. His left shoulder had been cut, leaving the arm attached only by the armpit. His throat was partly missing and his right leg was gone.
The doctors told him he was a monster, a traitor that killed everyone back there. They assumed he had made a pact with this "God". As he could not speak, he could not try to tell the truth, to beg them to listen to him.
When they were done with him, they threw him in the streets. The one all of humanity knew as the "Chosen one" was now called "the Traitor". Not being able to move, he spent several days at the same place until people, disgusted by him, tossed him on to the ditch.
One week ago, he was a regular teenager. An unknown God had chosen him to be a superhuman hero. And then, after fighting nightmares and witnessing his friends' death, he was now just a traitor to those he protected. A traitor now banished.
