A lullaby, heard on the distant shores
Able to reach even my core.
Behind the masks and the plays
A song even I can't betray.
Lines about a pretender;
Lies about a lover,
Secrets not to be told
Of feelings way too old.
Another smile; again kowtowing
For another tricked person.
Another laugh; again serving
To deceive daughter and son.
Dropping a disguise to present a new one
Whispering a confession to create a new crime.
Make the world forget when all this began
So they all forgive what I am.
A lullaby, heard far away
Able to slow down the decay
Behind the lies and the applausesA song even I can't give pause.
Rhymes about a lover;
Poems about a betrayer,
Truths to be treasured more
About a concealed paramour.
Another sigh; again jumping
Off a different bridge's remains.
Another laugh; again cutting
Those pointless veins.
Throwing a costume to match yours
Screaming a thought to catch your attention.
Make you forget I'm but a cur,
To avoid this painful rejection.
