While the universe just came to be, and Death and Life were meeting for the first time, two other entities were doing the same: Light and Darkness. The Light, cheerful and friendly at heart, tried to have a good relationship with its opposite. So, it was obvious to it that they had to find a common ground. Light asked the Darkness if they had an idea. They answered nicely:
"You just have to create things that shine as you do. I will be able to be only where they won't be. This way, we won't bother each other."
Light was so glad to get an agreement with the Darkness that it did not notice their smile. It obeyed, covering the universe with its brightness. It noticed a small celestial object being illuminated by a young star. But then, it saw a bigger object getting between them. Light saw this small asteroid turning to Darkness. There, it finally noticed their smile. It had been fooled. Its domain was now limited by ephemeral and limited things. It could not hope for a better balance, even less for a revenge. It had lost the moment it had accepted the Darkness' idea.
Those two will see the years go by, until the last creation of Light will disappear. It doomed itself to die.
Darkness have already won, and are already everywhere.
So, before turning off any light, be sure you sentenced no one to the forever-smiling Darkness.
