Jax

That night, my father was dead asleep on the couch. An empty bottle of tequila was in his hands as he snored loudly. I didn't want to get in trouble, so I took a quick shower and immediately went to bed.

I woke up that morning, happy. I'm seeing Michael again today. I want to have a proper conversation with him. Only knowing his full name won't really get me anywhere.

I walked down the stairs while trying to get my eyes to adjust to the light.

"Jax." My father called out. My heart stopped, my stomach churning. My eye vision suddenly becoming clearer.

"Yes?" I shakily replied, walking slowly into the kitchen. My father held his head in his hands as he leaned against the counter.

"Pass me the bottle of pain killers." He demanded. I hesitantly obliged. He snatched the bottle from my hands.

"I have the biggest hang over." He murmured to himself as he opened the bottle and poured himself the appropriate amount. He shoved the pills in his mouth and swallowed it, dry.

"What's for breakfast?" I asked nervously. Father tensed as he heard my sudden words. Father threw the bottle on the floor angrily and snapped his head towards me.

"I don't know. Why don't you make it, you lazy piece of shit!" He yelled and stormed off up the stairs. I sighed and opened the refrigerator, grabbing the eggs.

I was now walking towards the beach. The sun was now starting to go down. I smile as I see the familiar boy sitting on the sand, waiting.

"Michael!" I called out once I reached the sand. He looked behind him and smiled. He stood up and walked towards me. He immediately engulfed me in a hug. I was a bit taken back, but I ended up wrapping my arms around him.

"I was starting to think you weren't coming, I was starting to worry." Michael said as he let go. He picked up a rose that was laying on the sand, and handed it to me. "It reminded me of you, because of your middle name, Primrose. You already know that though. It's also very beautiful, like you."

I blushed at the sweet gesture, and gently took the rose from his hand. "Thank you." I said, meaning it. He grinned to himself as we began walking to same direction we did the day before.

"What are you afraid of?" Michael asked after 4 rounds of 20 questions.

"Clowns." I said with no hesitation. Michael laughed as I shook my head, thinking about clowns. They're so creepy. "What about you, Mr. Clifford?"

"You know, I was scared of dentists and the dark." Michael said. I raised my eyebrow in amusement and smirked at the boy.

"Oh really?" I asked, a hint of teasing in my voice. Michael nodded and continued,

"I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations."

I laughed. "Was?" Michael chuckled lightly before stopping. I stopped as soon as I realized that he wasn't walking anymore. I turned around and looked up at him with confusion, seeing his face convert from goofiness to seriousness.

"Well here I am, talking to you."
