BARABA POV

"Agent Carter," I spoke, walking onto the field on my first official day, training these men for war. It was almost 7 in the morning, and the only energy running through my veins was two cups of Coffee.

I couldn't sleep last night. Not only was my first day on my mind all night, but Bucky was also. I had no idea when he'll be back. Probably when the war is over, but God knows when that will end or if Bucky will make out alive.

Agent Carter, who was facing, what I assumed was officer Chester Phillips, turned around to face me. She gave me a bright smile, speaking. "Ah, officer Jones, Coffee?"

She tried to hand me a cup, and I quickly declined. "No, thanks," I said. "Already had two."

"More for me," Officer Phillips spoke, taking the cup out of Peggy's hand. "Officer Phillips, nice to meet you."

I shook his hand, smiling at him. Before I could even say a word to him, Peggy beat me to it, speaking in a blunt tone, "No, it's not; he wanted my partner to be a man,"

Peggy quickly took me away from Phillips. I hadn't fully processed what had happened or what was even said before heading down to our group. Peggy explained to me how Officers Phillips was technically the boss of this camp, but I had nothing to worry about. She wouldn't let me leave if I called the man a son of a bitch.

Which, according to her, he was.

But it was weird. Peggy was, so far, nothing compared to what I thought she was going to be: intimidating, a bit rude, and somewhat scary.

The only part I got was scary because she was. But I kept to myself. I never really hung around females, so to be working with one was something new.

Peggy and I approached the group of men, all looking around, somewhat in a line, but when Peggy spoke in her scary voice, those men straightened quickly.

"Recruits, attention!" She spoke. "Gentlemen, I am Agent Carter, and this is my partner, Officers Jones. We supervise all operations for this division."

I looked at every single man in line. But my eyes went straight to a familiar one; he was too familiar.

Steve!

What the hell is he doing here!?

I made eye contact with him, and he gave me a nod. He wanted to stay focused, serious perhaps. But I could only shoot him a small smile, proud to see him here.

If only Bucky had been able to hear about this.

"What's with the accent, Queen Victoria?" A man in line speaks. Peggy looks at him, giving him a look, while the other men laugh, all but Steve, of course. "I thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army."
