𝓚arma's wreckless plan put me into a dilemma. I couldn't just leap right on after him since, for one, I was still inexperienced with my abilities.
Even if I could shoot webs, I wasn't a hundred percent sure that they would even be able to support me and Karma's weight, and I wasn't even sure if I'd be able to aim to save my life. Not only that, but I had decided that my powers were supposed to remain a secret.
The last thing I needed was for our assassination target to figure out one of his students had superpowers and would make that well-known among my classmates along with Karma.I ran to the cliff edge and aimed downward toward Karma, deciding I had no other choice but to save him. I hesitated and curled my two middle fingers into the palm of my hand, preparing to sling a web at my red-headed friend before I felt a gush of wind blast past me.
Before my eyes even had time to process what they were seeing, I noticed that something had broken Karma's fall. It appeared to be a yellow, organic, almost web-shaped net.
I put two and two together and quickly shook my head, looking behind me to notice that my teacher was gone.
"Whew, nice try, Karma!", a familiar voice called, relieving a slowly deepening pain in my heart. "D-damnit, what the hell?!", the boy grunted in frustration, finding himself unable to lift an arm. "if I were any slower I don't think I would've been fast enough to be able to catch you!"I began to smile, breathing a long sigh of relief. "That was such a stupid plan, Karma!" I shouted angrily, slowly beginning to chuckle which slowly turned into laughter. I don't quite know why I began laughing, but I did and I couldn't control it.
Our supersonic teacher slowly lifted Karma up the cliff and back onto the ground. He fell to his knees in defeat and looked down onto the coarse dirt.
"Well, shit. That was my last idea and it's been ripped to shreds", he said in a soft, almost disappointed voice as he slumped back into a sitting position.
It was off to hear Karma like that, being the violent and stuck-up kid he always was."You see, Karma, no matter what kind of trouble any of my students are in, whether it be jumping off the top of a cliff or dealing with the stresses of everyday life, It's my job as your teacher to make sure all of you are safe until the day you graduate even if it costs me my life". Our teacher looked at Karma with his permanent wide inhuman smile, making Karma lift his head to face him as he slowly stood up, going from his upset expression to a smug grin like always.
"Yeah, that's what's so annoying about you. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered if you decided not to catch me, I had planned for that as well."
"You planned for not being caught by me? And what kind of plan would that be?", our teacher asked curiously. Karma glanced at me and smiled, making me gulp nervously before he looked back at Korosensei.
"Meh, doesn't matter too much."My heart skipped a beat when Karma looked at me. He hadn't seen me use my powers at all, and I would know since I wasn't aware of anyone spying on me when I first used them the day before.
Not just that, but this day was Karma's first day back at the school, and he's not the type of person to come a day early to see what the class was like. Was there something else he had that allowed him to sense my abilities?
My mind slowly began to stop spewing out questions as I thought of answers. He probably just noticed me rushing over to help him or something like that. Although I still couldn't possibly begin to think of what kind of backup plan he had in store for if our teacher didn't end up catching him.
Either way, there would be another time for me to focus on all that.I ran over to my old friend and hugged him tightly, although I felt his body flinch out of instinct. Guess this was kinda a rare thing to him.
"That was so stupid, you idiot!" I shouted at him, annoyingly pulling my arms away from him and standing back up.
"Putting your own life in danger just to try and kill him, God you're something else..."His reaction to this was a small chuckle.
"Still worrying about me, huh, Nagisa? A whole year since we last spoke to each other and you're still the same as always, you should know by now the kind of crazy shit I come up with".
He stuck out his hand and raised it toward me, nodding softly as I grabbed onto his hand with enough force to create a clap. I lifted him easily and he brushed the dirt off of himself and straightened his black unbuttoned-up overshirt.
