"What the hell is wrong with you?" I screamed, my anger reaching to my highest limit.
"It was meant to be a compliment." Zac replied casually.
"Compliment? You call that a compliment? Oh my god do you even have a girlfriend before?"
" Yeah of course, lots."
"That's a surprise."
"Stop screaming at me. Didn't your parents taught you that guests at your house should be treated properly?"
I immediately stopped talking. His words hit me faster than a lighting bolt, reopening the recovering wound that was plastered deep in my heart. How could he? Why did he have to mention my parents? I came to this place so that I could forget about the past and Zac just had to bring up that topic again. I closed my eyes, my legs wobbling as I slowly sat down on the cold bedroom floor in a rather awkward position.
The truth was that my father had already started drinking and coming back home late even before mum's death. He would beat me and my mum if he found us a nuisance. Some days I tried to ask him to stop but some days I just let him beat us. He wouldn't listen anyway. After all, he was stubborn just like me. Maybe that's the reason why my mum drifted apart from him.
Due to that, I always thought it was my fault that they became distant. So I came to this new place to forget about my haunting past. And Zac just had to bring up the topic again.
"Ameli?" Zac asked, his voice surprisingly filled with concern.
"Ameli, you alright? I'm so sorry." Zac said while kneeling down beside me, touching my shoulders lightly.
"Hey, do you need anything? If you want......"
"Go away." I mumbled under my breath but just loud enough for him to hear.
Zac nodded, taking the hint that his presence annoyed the heck out of me. At least he's smart now. He muttered a quick 'sorry' before hurriedly exiting my bedroom and leaving me deep in my thoughts.
;Zac's pov
I messed up big time for sure. After the incident at the supermarket, I thought that I could apologize to her but I just had to be an asshole.
She was a strong girl and definitely want to have the last say. But what I said had an impact on her. A topic that can break her.
What I said definitely was a sensitive topic to her. I didn't know whether she was upset because of our argument or something else. And I was determined to find out. To find out all the secrets hidden in her eyes.
And here I am thinking that I could apologize to her because of the previous incident when all I did was to make her hate me even more.
Way to go, Zac.
You are the best person in the whole wide freakin world.
