My mom always says that I look like my father, well not directly there are times when she looks at me that just gives it away. It's the look she has whenever I ask about him. When I ask her about my father she just smiles sadly and never answers.
I wonder if he even cared about me and mom, I angrily thought walking to the room my mom was staying in for the last few weeks. I stand before the door composing myself and taking a deep breath before entering the room.
When I enter I see my mom lying down and looking out the window beside her. With the heart monitor beeping lowly in the background, the IV bag hanging near it. She turned her head towards me smiling when she saw me. "Hi mom" I greeted her. "Good day sweetie" she responded. I walked in taking a seat next to her.
Looking at her in this state, she lost a lot of weight and can't get off this bed. A small pit formed in my stomach. She faced the window at her other side then said "I don't have much time left, I want to tell you one last story." I stayed silent knowing that it was the truth, reassuring her that it would get better would be useless.
"You know, years ago we were overrun by monsters. The skies were blood red with all kinds of monstrosities walking around the street. It took everything for us to survive." She started telling her story. "Yeah, the bloody age." I stated. "Yes, the red time. You know it all was started by a kid who wanted to live." She continued as she looked at me briefly as I nodded.
"There was once a man who saved us all, banishing the monsters back from where they came from. Returning the skies to the beautiful blue color. He killed the girl in order to bring everything back, but it wasn't enough. The gods needed more than her life to restore the balance. To save us all he gave up his life and soul to return the world as it was. If there is an afterlife he wouldn't be there as his soul now is gone." she said at the end of her story.
I had a surprised look on my face, all we were taught about how the bloody age ended was the death of the kid. My mom looked at me, smiled "That man was your father." she said as she laid down, then closed her eyes. Next thing I heard was the heart monitor beeping loudly. I got out of my chair then went to ask for help. The staff came in and one brought me outside, I sat on a chair just outside the room praying to any god out there to help.
After a few minutes a doctor came outside and told me that they couldn't save her. The small pit that was previously in my stomach grew as tears started streaking down my face. I stare to the floor as the tears fall off my face to the floor.
