30. Red light

After Danny made sure I was ok we slowly began getting rid of the evidence the detective had gathered,  We searched everywhere making sure we had found everything.

After about 25 minutes we had most of the evidence set in a pile in the detectives backyard,  I stood there looking through it as Danny brought over the last of a few old notebooks he had found with information on the case.

"This is insane" I spoke up,  I was on one knee beside the pile looking at some stuff we had found written in one of her notebooks.

"What is?" Danny replied kneeling down beside me

"She had it.. She was so close to finding the truth" I said slightly shocked at what I was reading

Danny didn't pay much attention to the notebook and stood up

"I know.." He said reaching into his pocket and pulling out a lighter, "Time it get rid of it"

I smirked getting up and walking over too him while throwing the notebook I was reading into the pile of evidence that would soon be ash.

Danny lit the lighter with a click and threw it into the pile of mostly paper,  It soon caught fire and started burning. 

We watched it until the fire was so hot it was hard to stand near.

Watching all that evidence burn was some what calming.  It was like watching the one thing that could take everything away from you be erased from existence.

"Hey im going to quickly go check inside the house and make sure we didnt miss anything" I said as I started walking towards the house

He just nodded and turned back towards the flames making sure that everything was being burned.

I walked into the house through the back shutting the door behind me.  The lights in the house were still on and so was the tv. 

We had already went through her office and bedroom 100% and made sure there was definitely nothing left in there so I decided to just double check the kitchen and living room area. 

I checked the couch first,  Removing the cushions and checking under the couch.  As expected there was nothing. 

There was no reason for her to have left anything under or on the couch but I was just making sure.  Maybe she had back up plans in case something happened to her, who knows.

I checked all around the living room,  There was nothing to be seen. 

ok I thought now just the double check the kitchen

The kitchen was dark but the light from the living room was just enough to let me see where I was going so I didn't bother turning on the light. 

I started with the drawers by the sink,  All I found was cutlery,  Napkins ans some dish soap obviously so I moved on to the cupboards above the sink. 

The doors to the cupboards were glass so I could already see inside, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary but who knows,  Better safe then sorry.

I opened the doors to see plates,  Cups and other stuff like that.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

I moved the stuff around just to be sure but there was nothing.

I was about to close the cupboard when something caught my eye.  It was something glowing, a small red light on the second shelf in the cupboard. 

It was just above eye level so I moved the glass cups out of the way to get a better look. 

The small red light was coming from the back of the shelf so I reached my hand in to grab it. 

I grabbed it and pulled it out,  When I saw what it was my stomach dropped.

A camera,  And it was on and working.

"shit!" I said out loud as I threw the camera at the wall across the room making it shatter into a bunch of pieces.

I stood there for a second,  heart pounding.

Was that on?! did it see me?! did it see us?!

I heart sunk deeper into my stomach as I heard it.  The faint sound of sirens that seemed to be getting closer every second.

Thats when I knew,  That camera saw everything.

I ran as fast as I could towards the back door and out to Danny. 

I felt like I was going to throw up

He had also heard then and was running towards me.

"We have to go NOW!" He basically shouted grabbing my hand.

"What about the evidence?!" I replied as we ran towards one of the fields surrounding the house

"It will be fine its burning lets go!" He shouted urgently

Three cop cars pulled up as we ran into the field in the direction of my house.

its too dark there's no way they could see us... right?
