The entire family could count down the days until the first day of Summer ─ the day they arrived at that house for the best time ever.

The house composed most of Rosie Franklin's formative years. Learning how to swim. Crying while watching Titanic for the first time. Her first kiss with the neighbour's son. For her, everything magical and special happened between those summer months. It held an important place in her heart.

Which is why it hurt that it would be the Franklin's first summer without their father.

Mother of two, Savannah Franklin's blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders as she drove along the road towards the Summer House. She had watched as the landscape around them turned from the busy streets of New York to the coast horizons and tall palm trees, a familiar route of every year. Though she was able to notice the different mood that presided over the family.

James had dealt his father's death a lot better than Rosie had. He had continued to excel in grades and in his rugby team, becoming team captain and prom king.

Rosie, however, struggled. Inheriting her father's dark hair and crystal-clear blue eyes, she was reminded everyday of her father every time she glanced in the mirror. She had withdrawn into a shell of the girl she used to be, disappearing from home and returning in the middle of the night with alcohol intermixed in her breath.

Savannah could only hope the return of the summer allowed Rosie some time to heal.

Glancing at her daughter, she licked her lips. "I want you two to be on your best behaviour you two. James, don't leave your clothes all over. No one wants to see your underwear."

"Mom!" James groaned from the backseat, pale skin turning red.

"I'm being serious." Savannah retorted. "And Rosie, no staying out god knows where. Make sure to be back by curfew."
