Groaning loudly at the hangover that had a tight grip on her, she slowly made her way to the kitchen to grab some paracetamol. However, a crowd had already formed in there. Passing Conrad, who was sprawled across the couch with his head in between his hands, Rosie similarly winced at the sudden burst of laughter.

"Can you guys be a bit quieter? Otherwise my head might explode." she muttered, wincing at the amount of light that shone through the big windows. As if by response, James grabbed her by her shoulders and shouted in her ear, causing Steven to holler in laughter. Glaring at her brother, she slapped him by the crown of his head with a frown. "I'll smother you in your sleep with a pillow."

"Maybe that will teach you not to drink so heavily." her mother stated, seated next to Laurel and eyes glued to her laptop.

Rolling her eyes, Rosie was about to retort something snarky before she caught a smell in the air, spotting the blender. "Wait ─ is that a hangover smoothie?"

Snatching the blender away from her sphere of reach, Jeremiah smirked. "Who said it was for you?"

"Don't be such an asshole." Rosie approached him and reached out, but Jeremiah held the blender higher, knowing damn well she wasn't tall enough to reach. Realising her sudden proximity, Rosie let out a huff, pouting as she took a step back and crossed her arms over her chest. "Remember that time you wouldn't give me back my book so I ripped the eyes out of your teddy bear?"

James laughed, blond hair falling into his eyes. "Oh god, I remember that. Jere locked himself in his room for a week."

Paling slightly, Jeremiah glanced at the blender in thought. "Okay, I'll give you some."

Rosie smiled in appreciation. "Thank you. Looks like you aren't such an asshole as I thou─"

"─if you apologise for insulting me last night." Jeremiah finished, triumphant look in his ocean blue eyes.

Gaping, Rosie shook her head. "I take it back. You are an asshole."

"Guess you won't be wanting this smoothie then." Jeremiah went to pour it down the sink, making Rosie dart forward.

"Wait." Jeremiah paused, raising an eyebrow at her in expectancy. Biting the inside of her cheek, she forced the words out, lacking any sort of real emotion or sympathy. "I apologise for insulting you last night. I didn't mean it, and you didn't deserve it. Good enough?"

Pretending to consider, Rosie pushed his shoulder and he laughed, pouring the smoothie into a glass before sliding it across the counter. Going to grab it, Jeremiah's fingers brushed Rosie's, making her hiss in slight pain as she pulled away. A pattern of purple circles stained her pale skin around her knuckles, causing her mother to raise a sharp eyebrow.

"Hope whoever you punched deserved it."

Scrunching her nose at her mom, Rosie caught the packet of frozen peas that Conrad threw her way, pressing it to her knuckles with a sigh of pleasure.

"What happened to you?" Laurel's eyebrows shot up at the bruise on Belly's face as she walked in. "Did Rosie take you out?"

At Belly's confused stare, Rosie showed her the bruised knuckles. "Hey, at least we're matching."

"It's not that bad." Conrad spoke up, glancing at Belly and making her look away.

"Oh my god!" Susannah exclaimed, being the last one to enter the room with a bounce in her step and a grin that illuminated her face. "Belly said yes to the debutante!"

Steven scoffed, raising an eyebrow as he pointed at his sister. "What, that thing?"

"Shut up cretin." Belly snapped, turning towards Rosie with a spoon of cereal in her hand. "You're doing it too, right?" at Rosie's hesitance, she added "You have to! You convinced me to go to this party last night, so you owe me."

"Fine." Rosie muttered, making Susannah clap her hands excitedly.

"This is great! Now, which two of you are going to escort this beautiful ladies to the ball?"

Immediately, a round of excuses went around the room.

"Not me, I went last year."

"Yeah, and I swore off balls." at Steven's wiggling eyebrows, Jeremiah chuckled. "The dances, you idiot."

"I already have a date." Steven mentioned.

Rolling her eyes, Belly dug into her cereal. "Wow guys, stop fighting over us."

"It's fine Belly, we can find better dates than these pigs." Rosie retorted, causing Jeremiah to pretend to be wounded as he pressed a hand to his chest.

"I'll let you know, Franklin, that you'd find no better date than me if I offered."

Meeting his gaze, Rosie's icy eyes contained fire. "I'd be the laughing stock if I went with you. Besides, I'd rather drown."

"Rosie, be nice." Savannah scolded, knowing her daughter's temper better than anyone.

"She's right, though." Belly defended, causing Rosie to high-five her. "Besides, there's someone I'd like to ask." the statement caused Conrad to stare at Belly, but when the stare went unreturned, he muttered about going for a swim.

Jumping off her seat, Susannah gathered the two girls in her arms. "Ready to go then?"

Exiting the room, Jeremiah leaned by the door as he followed Rosie's figure. "Good luck finding a date ─ you're gonna need it."

"You're gonna swallow your words, Fisher."

With a glare, she walked away as Jeremiah smiled, knowing damn well he would.
