When the years feel like they're crawling
Look to the sky and maybe the stars will tell you something
About a time spent running from the things that matter
And the strength given up in a fitting surrender
Darling, there's a reason why I'm here in your heart
Out of all the questions of life, why bother taking part
In the ruin of men and of the ideals held in youth
No longer are we bright-eyed, clueless kids without tooth
We took that as a sign to go into the wild we hate
What did we learn, darling? What kept us up to date?
So when the mind comes up with things better left unsaid
Take my love, darling, and dip it in red

When the rain feels like it's pouring without respite
Down your worries in bitter taste and drowning in spite
Gone is the sparkle in your eyes—one I swore to protect
How can I find it without having me as a suspect?
Of failed dreams and life let go just to survive
What else are we to do except feel pain and dive
Head-first into the void they call heaven on earth
Is it what they call love? Darling, it's nothing unheard
We have stained the night and slumbered in the dark
How we laughed at the mistakes of others in part
And when we feel like the clouds are getting upset
Darling, take my love and dip it in red

When the lights feel like they're flicking off
Hold on to what you know and what's enough
Of the city sparks and the fast pace of life
Don't leave me behind amidst grime and strife
How is it that you're fine and I'm barely okay?
I've been meaning to ask but I only came to say
That the brave often feel like a fool on stage
And the coward fights the torrents of age
Tell me the truth about the matters we both forgot
Save me the trouble of searching for what we begot
So when the stars feel like they were dying in bed
Take my love, darling—take it and dip it in red

Perhaps when the days feel like they're running
You'll remember the dreams we kept on chasing
The forgotten roads, the path not taken—all of those
Revisit what we cannot bring back, those we lost
There has been a time when love is the least of all
But now, it takes everything in my mind and soul
Have we become friends with the dark we fear?
Do you think it best to cry and shed a tear?
For the blood poured to water seeds that won't grow
And for the bones broken just so we can go
To when the nights don't feel like we found the dead
Until then, take my love, darling, and dip it in red

Perhaps when the days feel like they're runningYou'll remember the dreams we kept on chasingThe forgotten roads, the path not taken—all of thoseRevisit what we cannot bring back, those we lostThere has been a time when love is the least of allBut ...
