Rebecca stumbles a bit around her small New York apartment as she gets ready for work today. She had a longer scene as Joey today and the day has already been a bit chaotic. A thunder storm cut her power for a moment last night so she woke up late because her alarm clock was reset. 5:55AM. "Shit." Beck repeated to herself a few times under her breath and she fumbled with her keys to get out of the door and grab her coat. She closed the door behind her and stopped. "FUCK!" She shouted outside her apartment, in the rain. She forgot her umbrella. She began stomping to her car in anger, covering her hair, hoping to not get it too wet.
She gets into her 2014 Subaru Forester and heads towards Chelsea Pier where they were filming that day. She flashes her ID quickly at the valet driver so he knew not to charge her for the day. She tucked her ID back into her lapel. She wore light blue distressed jeans and a black suit jacket and white T shirt underneath. She took pride in her clothing, especially since she was a firm believer in throwing away gender stereotypes. She only ever wore clothing labeled for men because it's what felt comfortable for her. Although her entire life, people questioned her sexuality and gender, she firmly remained true to herself.
She walked past her chair today and saw her name and "The Blacklist" again written on it and it made her smile. She felt important to be on the show. She rushed into the hair and makeup trailer and saw James sitting down getting touched up and Amir starting his hair routine. "Once I'm done with the boys, we will take you in." Mina said, one of the hair stylists. Beck smiled a closed smile and sat down in one of the chairs by the door. "I mean honestly Rebecca, I took you for someone with more manners than that." James blurred out, waving his hand while his face remained still for Mina. "I'm sorry?" Beck said, leaning over. "You come in, you don't say hi to me or Amir, I mean what are we here? Ghosts?" He says before a slight chuckle. "Oh, ha, yeah I'm sorry. Good morning Mr Spader, good morning Amir." She said shyly. "Now why I am Mr Spader?" James asked, smiling. "I don't know...I." Beck stuttered before James interrupted again. "Im kidding Beck, honestly, just call me James." He said. "Mina please, I have enough of a tough time keeping my hair, I don't need you lining up all my spare hairs everywhere else just to reinforce my hairline, please, please." James said shooing her hands away from his head and getting up from the chair and motions to it. "Please sit Rebecca, I must be on my way." James said as he leaves.
Rebecca sits down in the seat awkwardly and brushed her hair quickly with her fingers. "Sorry I'm late, got caught up by the storm and all." She said smiling awkwardly at Mina. "All good, you have short hair so no problem." She said, taking her spray bottle and scissors to Beck's hair.
"Everything ok over by you?" Amir asks, while the stylist on him covers the bags under his eyes. "Yeah just blew out my electricity for a minute so my alarm clock reset so I woke up late." Beck explained to him. "What? Why don't you use your phone like a normal person." Beck laughed a bit and looked at her iPhone a bit and motioned it around a little. "I don't know, I just use my phone for...phone stuff?" She says a bit confused. "I think an alarm clock is phone stuff?" Amir continues, raising one eyebrow and beginning to show a bit of a smile. Beck's smile grew louder as she followed up with "I don't know I think I just use things for it's intended purpose? Phones for phone stuff. Butts for butt stuff, and so on." She said, sticking in her comedic personality. "Hey whoa! I don't want to know what type of butt stuff you've learned on set before! I know this is your first TV role but maybe not your first online role?" Amir shrugged and laughed, giving Beck the sass back.
Beck and him laughed a bit before Mina motioned her to sit still again.
"I'm not sure how you get your hair to look so luscious like that when it's so short?" Amir said looking at Beck's hair in the mirror. "Uh, I don't know? I wake up and my hair is just full of itself. Ha, I just have thick hair." She replies. "Me too but it grows out too coarse." He says. "Both of your hair is perfect so you two can go now." Mina says pointing to them both, making room for her next clients. Her oriental accent poked through more than ever when she got angry and annoyed and her grammar began to worsen. Beck giggled as her and Amir walked out of the trailer.
"You're lucky you're so young, you don't need makeup to cover any bags or dark spots." Amir says motioning to his own face. "I'm only 24" Beck replies. "I get bags and marks but I don't know, depends on my day." She continued as they walked across the lot, into the studio.
She felt self conscious about her look. She was a plus size woman who most people mis-identify as transgender or queer due to her preference in clothing and short hairstyle. She felt proud that casting never insisted she lose weight or cake her to makeup to cover lines on her face made from her overweight stature but it's something she always keeps in mind during filming.
