In Another Life [Ace X Reader ]

part twenty

Last chapter? No. Almost? Probably.  (I don't remember most of this arc but Ace. Sorry.

The scent lingered in my nose calming me down as we rushed up from the
Water and into the gate of marineford. Something told me it would all end here.

I held aces hat on my head and the knife he always wore was on my hip.

"Gamble." I mumbled looking around.

44 minutes 20 seconds

Truly the end.

"AAAACCCEEE"

I screamed at the top of my lungs with my hands cupped over my mouth.

"(Y/N)! you have to get out of here!" He cried loud enough for everyone to hear. I obviously wasn't going to listen to him.

I rushed through the fighting covered by Marco as I aproched. Luffy wasn't in ear shot unfortunately. I didn't even see him.

"Ace!" I took a deep breath.

"You have to live! Sabo! He's alive!" I watched his reaction almost getting cut in half.

He squirmed in his chains trying to escape. It was to no avail. I couldn't see his tears, but I could see his body shaking with sobs.

37 minutes 5 seconds

Time was flying, and I was basically useless. I knew I couldn't exactly fight, but I could give a specific someone the means to keep on fighting.

That's when luffy came into my view. I did owe him after all. I rushed towards him dodging bullets and swords as best I could. I only ended up with a few dozen scratches.

He continued his fighting not noticing I was there.

"Gamble."

"Hey, Luffy! I bet you Cant punch that dude into the ocean!" A bad time to make bets, but he didn't think anything of it.

"Bet I can!" He called back pushing the soldier into the ocean.

"Give!" I announced forcing my remaining years towards luffy. Ot was only about 7, so what I owed him. I had about four months for myself that probably wouldn't last that long.

"I love ya little bro." I smiled to myself I whispered continuing to fight people.

"Wow! I feel good as new!" I heard luffy hollar as I watched a dozen men go flying. That whole encounter took at least 15 minutes. Takes a while to dodge swords.

I made my way back towards the ship in an attempt to not cause any more trouble for anyone.

But of course, the world had other plans.

Two men grabbed me and started dragging me towards the marines causing another problem for both Luffy, and the whitebeard pirates.

And that's when the whole world stopped.

"This is whitebeards era, and don't you forget about it!" Akainu sent Ace flying back.

Ace sat on the ground gripping his burnt arm on his knees.

"Ace!" I screamed breaking free from the two distracted marines by stabbing one with aces trusty knife. But I was on the complete opposite side of the battlefield.

Akainu continued to tell things to Ace. Luffy fell to the ground loosing his grip on Aces vivi card. He reached for it but akainu jumped at him.

Ace didn't expect it.

He jumped up and ran infront of luffy, and BAM.

akainus fist went straight through his chest forming a giant hole unrepairable.

"Gamble" I squeaked out as I ran towards the two.

45 seconds
44 seconds
43 seconds

The timer just kept shrinking as luffy held his dying brother in his arms.

30 seconds

No way I'd make it there in that time. I kept running towards the love of my life.

Ten seconds

I was so close yet so far. Ace looked towards me with a smile on his face as his eyes closed for the very last time. He looked so peaceful you would think he was only sleeping had there not been blood coming out his mouth and a giant hole in his chest.

1 second

And he was gone. He never even got to say goodbye to Sabo.

Akainu continued to go after luffy, but Marco put a stop to it. Whitebeard stopped behind him and that's where he died.

Everything was a blur.

Shanks and his crew arrived and threatened everyone wanting to fight. I sat beside aces covered body. My hands trembling as I reached for him. With the blanket he looked peacefully sleeping.

A wave of reassurance washed over me as I remembered just how soon I'd be reunited with him.

My hand touched his skin in a final attempt to change everything. His skin was cold. Colder than it had ever been.

The normal heat he put out that almost burned my skin was gone forever.

"We need to go." A hand grabbed my arm pulling me up to a standing position.

"This is your fault!" I screamed punching him over and over again. Blood seeped from his nose and his mouth, but he just stood and took it.

"Hit me as many times as you need to." He spoke in a calm tone.

My fist made contact with his stomach and then his cheek with one final blow as hard as I could. I stood in pure anger letting out a heart wrenching scream.

He yanked me into his chest and held me close. "Blame me if you must. I should have Been here so much sooner." I could hear the cracking in his voice.

I continued to bang my fists on his chest trying to break free from his embrace.

"(Y/N)..." Marco grabbed my shoulder pulling me off of my father.

"I'll bring you to the burial site. But we need to go. Now." Marco dragged me away much harsher than my father would have.

Shanks held aces dead body in his arms taking him onto his ship.

So this was goodbye forever?
