                Chapter 11

“But Jessie poured me the drink.” I complained as I was questioned by Hunter and Jame.

                “Jessie?” They simultaneously questioned me.

“Sure…” I replied cautiously in response. I was getting drilled by them because I came back to the hotel ‘intoxicated.’ An unsure hand ran through my blonde hair. “That will work.”

“Nobody understands you, Kat.” Jame told me. I didn’t think that I was mumbling. My words undoubtedly came out as, ‘phat lil pork.’ I guessed that they couldn’t understand me, so I grabbed the free notepad on the counter and wrote that I was going to bed. The scrambled words weren’t legible.

My brain began to get fuzzy, but it wasn’t just from the alcohol in my system. I collapsed on the bed behind me.  An immense pain swept through my mind. The demon court wanted to visit with me. Oh! I wonder if I will feel drunk there too.

I immediately sobered up as I stood before the ever so judging court. The voice boomed from a near corner. My eyes showed surprise as he walked up to me. The projection of a face was no longer that. He was now a full demon. His ivory colored horns protruded from his skull, making him seem more real to me. He had unusual eyes too. The red eyes made me question his identity. The unusual man stepped into view, and I realized that this demon was not the one that I always talk to.

I stared into the cursed soul of Hades. He was the Greek God from the ancient times. I always thought that he was addressed as Satan. I knew I recognized him. Hades gave off the vibes that made you see him for who he really was.

“Kat, dear girl, you have been careless.” He said in a very calm voice.

“I’m sorry sir.” I glanced at the floor. I felt like I had betrayed someone when he talked to me like that.

“It is quite alright, darling. You have been stressed; I understand that.” He continued. “You must remember your messages, and you must remember to keep your friends close.”

“Why did you choose me?” I blurted out rudely.

He smiled. “I dreaded the day you would ask me that question.” I questionably peered up at him through my eyelashes and urged him to continue. “You and I have always had a very special relationship, but I can tell you know more. I cannot answer the questions that have built up in your mind, my dear.”

I smiled as I flashed back to my reality. That demon had the overwhelming sense of calm dangling above my head. It melted into my mind and forced me to relax.

My beautiful friends were relaxing into their spots. Jame was cuddling up to my side and Hunter was sprawled across the bed to my left, so I quietly fell into the peaceful slumber I have needed for the past few hours.

I dreamt of Matt that night. He was trapped in a cage, but he looked well fed and clothed properly. That confused me the most. Why in the world would a person encage someone and then give them everything that they needed?  It warped the rest of my night into a conglomeration of questions that I had no answer to. My eyes popped open, and I was awake. I wanted to know how my darling siblings were doing. I wanted to know where Matt was.

Martha was my sweet, perfect little sister. Without me, she would be harassed by her two older brothers. We were stacked just perfectly. Kyle came first followed shortly by me. Kyle and I were close growing up and Jack (my naughty sophomore brother) fell into place as the sibling of Martha. The four of us Chance kids were untouchable. Without someone that knows someone you would never have a Chance.
