"Hey, Julie, are you okay? What does your fortune say?"
"I'm okay... it just says be careful who you trust in front of you."
"Oh. Well, those aren't that accurate." He laughs nervously.
"Yeah... I guess you are right."
"You know you can trust me right Julie?"
"Yeah. Of course."
"Good."
We both continue to eat our fortune cookies and when we are finished eating, he gets up to go to the bathroom.
"Uh... I gotta go to the bathroom, my friend is calling but I will be right back okay Julie?"
"Yes, that's okay, I will be right here waiting for you."
"I'll be right back beautiful."
I start overthinking right away. He just asked me out like an hour ago. I feel like I need to know him longer, but we have hung out a lot. We have only known each other for like a week and a half now. I feel like it's too early, but I don't know. Should I be overthinking this? I have had really bad relationships with everyone I have dated, they either cheated on me or broke my heart, or both. What if he is texting another girl? It has already been almost fifteen minutes since he left to go to the bathroom, what is taking him so long? I get it, it's a phone call from one of his friends, but still. I look up and finally Sebastian is walking towards me. "I am so sorry, my friend was calling me because she wanted to talk about something for work, it was nothing really." Great. It was a her. A girl.
"Oh, okay..."
"Yeah, but do you want to go to this Ferris wheel tonight, you would really like it. It would be another pretty view of the city and we could get dinner later if you want."
"Aw. Sebastian, I would love to."
"So... we are girlfriend and boyfriend now? That is crazy isn't it Julie?"
"Yes, it sure is." I put away all my overthinking and negative thoughts. It is fine, I am fine. There is nothing to worry about.
A couple hours later, it was getting dark outside. Sebastian and I did so many things today. We went riding our bikes around the city, got Chinese food when he asked me out, took pictures together, read a book together, we even went on the empire state building, saw the Statue of liberty, and then went on some walking tours. We talked about our jobs, and what we want to do to get better as a journalist, and both of us as authors. We got to know each other so much more, but something I realized about him is that he gets sad when we bring up the word "family." His parents did get divorced and stopped caring about him, so that makes sense. "So, tell me about your family Julie? You don't have to if you don't want to though."
"Well, my parents weren't divorced, but they did fight a lot. My mom had a lot of mental problems, so things weren't so good when my parents were with each other. I thought it was better for them if they actually did get a divorce. But it's okay, I am so used to being around screaming, yelling, and fighting that it sounds normal to me." I say, in a sad voice.
"Oh my... I am so sorry Julie. You didn't deserve that at all. No one does, and that is definitely not normal, you shouldn't have to have gone through that."
"It's okay though. Look where I am now." I smile at him.
"It isn't okay, but just know I am here for you Julie, always."
"Do you promise?"
"I promise." He says in a very reassuring voice.
"I am always here for you too Sebastian, know that." He leans in and gives me a hug and kisses me on the forehead.
We walk to the Ferris wheel and there are very pretty lights above and tons of people in line. We wait in line for another 10 to 15 minutes and get on. As we go up, Sebastian leans over and kisses me on the forehead again. "Gosh, you are so beautiful Juliet." I smile at him and blush. "You are the most beautiful, most caring and kind girl that I have ever met. You are so interesting and have so much ahead of you Julie."
"So do you Sebastian."
We both smile again. We make it to the top and he takes a Polaroid picture of me and we take one together. He leans over and points at all the lights, the city, and all the stars. He then moves my face towards his and pulls me close to him. He kisses me on the lips and I feel tongues touching, but he doesn't stop.
