Rob POV
I still couldn't believe it had been five years. Five years of hell. I was still married to Kate. She still hasn't told me where my daughter is.
Kate was in every sense, a gold digger. I look at my credit bill, she has spent a hundred thousand dollars for the month. That's double the salary some people make in a year. She only wanted this marriage for the fame and money that it brought to her.
I was looking through some files when a folder fell from the cupboard to the floor. It was my marriage certificate. I haven't even looked at it. Kate hasn't either. All she cared about was that the marriage was legal. That she is my legal wife.
As I was picking up the folder, the television caught my attention. It was a story about Adriana. Apparently she's dating Liam Hemsworth. I saw them together at the Gala, but I just wanted to believe she was just trying to make me jealous. But apparently she moved on and I am stuck married to Kate.
I finally looked at the marriage certificate. I couldn't believe my eyes. I quickly rambled through my files and found the papers of the house I have bought for Adriana. Fate has its own cruel way of working. I just stood there in shock. Lucas walked into my office and tried to gain my attention.
"Earth to Rob!" He said while spanning his fingers in front of me.
"I can't believe it." That's all that I could say.
"Believe what?" Lucas asked me, confused. I handed him my marriage certificate.
"How did this happen? The last I heard is that she's dating Liam Hemsworth and they made it official at the Gala." He told me.
"She signed the wrong papers." I told him.
"Come again! I am lost. What am I missing." He asked me, clearly confused.
"The incident in Switzerland, I told Adriana to sign some papers. It was for a property I bought for her, closer to her college." I was telling him when he cut me off.
"You mean to pay her off?" He fired back at me.
"Do you want to hear the rest of the story?" I asked him.
"Yes!"
"Well shut the hell up or get out of my office." I told him.
"Sorry bro, go on." He apologized.
"She was crying and must have signed the wrong papers. I signed both. Not really checking. Kate was overwhelmed that she didn't care to check and just signed the paper I handed her. She went with me to drop the papers at the registry."
"You mean to tell me Kate got a house and Adriana is your wife?" He asked me.
"Yes!" I responded.
"Then this is good." He told me.
"How can that be good?" I was curious now.
"Because when you tell Kate you want a divorce she can't fight for half and half." He told me, joking of course.
"Lucas, what are you doing here by the way?" I was a bit upset he was joking at my expense.
"I found your daughter. Her name is Emma Roslyn. She lives with her adopted parents in New York. Here's a picture of her.
She is so beautiful. I couldn't believe I missed watching her grow up and taking her first steps.
"Let's go to New York." I told Lucas.
"It's not that simple. Her adoptive parents have all right over her. And we are not even sure they are gonna let you meet her." He told me.
"I didn't give up my right. I can still fight for her in court." I told him.
"That's a good way to get on your daughter's side. She is going to hate you from tearing her away from her parents. They are the parents she has known her whole life." He told me and I hate to admit it but he was right.
"So what do I do? Wait till she turns eighteen?" I asked him.
"I have a plan but it involves you meeting Adriana and explaining what really happened that day." He told me.
"Adriana won't even look in my direction, much less talk to me." I told him honestly.
"And whose fault is that? You should have talked to her and not acted as if she didn't exist. He went on lecturing me.
"She acts like I don't exist, so what do you expect me to do?" I asked a bit furious.
"Don't be an idiot for starters. If I was the one who got my heart broken, I would have acted like you were invisible also." He fired back.
"How can I meet Adriana without Kate knowing?" I asked him curiously.
"I have that taken care of."
"Like you planning on killing Kate?" I joked with him.
"It's very tempting I must say but she ain't worth spending my life in jail." He told me.
"How can Adriana help? I asked him.
"Emma is a big fan of Adriana and Adriana has this contest going on. The winner gets to spend the day with her. We can get her to talk to Emma's adoptive parents. Maybe she can get them to agree." He told me. It was a good plan if we could get Adriana to agree.
"It's a great plan if you get Adriana to agree to it." I told him.
"Leave that to me."
Adriana is most certainly not likely to speak to me. That I am a hundred percent sure about. I hurted her so deeply, there was just no redemption from what I did to her.
Lucas has invited Kate over, Grams, his parents and mine, along with Ava and the kids were there. Kate looked thrilled. Kate had no contact with my family. I think Kate is starting to think I am finally accepting her. I could tell from that evil smile on her face.
Lucas told them, we have an important client to go out to lunch with. Kate insisted I stayed but when Lucas mentioned that just a client we could earn millions from. Kate had a change of heart. More like a dollar sign popped up in her eyes.
"Really millions of dollars client?" I asked him.
"Well look at it this way, if we are able to get Emma safe from Kate and you left her. All she will be getting is that house. She's ain't entitled to half of your money." He told me.
"Who can argue when you put it that way."
