I wake up to a rapping on the door. I really should open the door, but I'm half-asleep, look like a drowned rat, and I really can't be arsed.
So I leave it.
It's okay though, because someone else in the apartment isn't as lazy as me. I hear someone quickly bound through the hallway. I know it's Lily. Aggie would never move that quickly, and she'd probably get one of us to open the door.
Lily answers.
"Hey. Lil."
"Oh my gosh Eli! Hey! Come in!" Oh no. Not this. What time is it? I groggily open my phone.10:22am
I suppose that's an adequate time to meet someone. But I can't go out there. Into the battlefield. I really don't want to make conversation with a complete stranger when I'm half-asleep. Plus, this Eli seems to be in an already unstable place at the moment. I don't know how to comfort people. I'd probably make him even worse.
I also don't think he'd want to talk to some fifteen year old either. He's probably been forced to talk to Lily. Poor Eli. I know how it feels. Maybe I should go out. Save him. Actually, no. I'm selfish. I'll stay here and get more sleep. Even if I'm sleeping in a sleeping bag and it's fucking uncomfortable. I'll be fine.
Except I'm not because I can hear them both wittering on. Loudly, too. God, these walls must be thin.
"So, how's everything?"
"Shit."
I nearly laugh. I can just imagine Lily's face. I also don't know why they're speaking as if they're two aliens from different planets who don't know how to communciate with each other. I'm just enjoying the show.
"Oh. Your sister still not well."
"It's cancer, Lil. Not some cold. Some fucking miracle would have to happen before she got better."
"I'm really sorry, Eli. I can't imagine how it must feel for you."
"I bet you can't." Eli murmers. "Doug can bring the furniture to you this afternoon, okay? I've got to go and see my... um. Sister. See how she's doing."
"Oh-of course. Thanks. For everything. I know a lot's on your plate at the moment and I really appreciate it."
"Bye."It must've just been a brief meeting then. They must've been at the door. I also don't think I was the only one who heard.
"Who was that Lil?" Aggie calls from her bedroom.
"My friend Eli. I texted him. About the furniture. Apparently my other friend Doug has some furniture going free. Eli just stopped by to see me. He was going to see his-his sister. She's sick. Got cancer. Bad."
"Oh. That's sad. Send my love to him." Aggie says.
"You can't do that! You haven't even met him!"
"I've heard him!"
"Too right!" I yell. "Some people are trying to sleep."
"Stop being an arsehole Fae! It's 10 AM." Lily yells back.
"Get out off that stupid sleeping bag now before I drag you off it." Aggie demands. She's probably crossing her arms and frowning.
"You heard her. Did she stutter?"
"Don't be cheeky Lily."
"Right. Um. Sorry, Aggs."I groggily get up from the encasing warmth of my sleeping bag to the bathroom, bringing my toothpaste and toothbrush along with me.
I brush my teeth, wash my face, and go back to my room. I pick out a short sleeved green turtleneck with a green plaid skirt. I pull my mirror out and look at it.
My blonde hair is down to my shoulders , slightly wavy and unruly since I've just got out of bed. My skin is light and fair, but soon I think my freckles will come out on my face. I hope se anyway. I love my freckles. I put my hair into a claw clip and put some suncream on. I perch some sunglasses on the top of my head. I don't put make up on; I can't be arsed. I slip my trusty sandles on, and decide to face my sister. And Aggie.
I walk in. Aggie and Lily are in the middle of the floor. They have their shoes on and their tote bags at the ready.
"Gee Fae. I feel like I've aged waiting for you. Come on. We're going shopping."
