The evening had finally arrived in the orphanage.
The sun was setting, casting a red hue in the sky. Three bright stars shone and the moon was faintly seen in his crescent form.
Heesung was at the cafeteria doing his cleaning duty with the other children that were assigned with him in the tasks board.
He remembered that he and his friends wondered where Jungwon and Sunoo disappeared to. They were sure they would've seen them at dinner, but they were disappointed when they arrived at the cafeteria and didn't see them.
Ni-ki's facial expression at dinner flashed in Heesung's mind, he became absent-minded as he reminisced about what happened at dinner.
When they arrived at their table, they were quick to sit down ,all of them were excited to eat today dinner but only Ni-ki seemed down, playing with his plate moving it around in his food tray before starting to speak;
"Should we check the nurse room? Or go to their room to see if everything's alright?" He sounded concerned and looked at the others in worry, his eyes continuously glancing at the entrance hoping to see Jungwon and Sunoo.
"They probably already fell asleep" Jay's voice was slightly muffled by the huge bites he took from the meatball sandwich that was today's main course.
His cheeks were puffy, reminding Heesung of a squirrel.
After finishing swallowing, Jay opened his mouth and continued talking.
"Really Ni-ki, we don't usually get that kind of food. The only way I would miss such a thing would probably be because I fell asleep" Jay took another bite from his sandwich and a few pieces of meat escaped his mouth as he chewed and fell on the plate.
Sunghoon rolled his eyes in disgust at Jay and started to eat his own sandwich. Every bite he took was small and careful, wiping his mouth with a napkin after every bite to keep himself clean from the crumbs and grease.
After seeing his friends eating, Ni-ki also took a bite and started speaking.
"I'm worried about them, we haven't seen them since breakfast '' He talked with a mouth full of food, spewing it everywhere as he spoke. Sunghoon wrinkled his nose and grimaced, moving further away.
"First of all, swallow before you speak. You know how I find this behavior disgusting, it's not very polite".
After he reprimanded Ni-ki, Sunghoon took his knife and fork, and cut his sandwich to bite-size pieces.
Ni-ki frowned at him while Heesung noticed that he was about to throw at Sunghoon a meatball and was about to tell him to stop, but Jake was faster than him, holding Ni-ki's hand.
"Stop it. There is no need to start a fight Ni-ki" Jake spoke in a calming, neutral voice and Ni-ki lowered his sauce sullied hand, putting the meatball down on the plate. He stuck out his tongue at Sunghoon, who clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Heesung" A girl's voice broke Heesung out of his memory.
"We finished all our tasks" the girl spoke again. She was on cleaning duty today along with Heesung.
He looked at her and gave her a small smile as he finished clearing the plates from the table.
"Ok, thank you. Good job" Heesug said while the rest started to leave the cafeteria, the girl smiled in goodbye and ran to join the others, thus leaving Heesung on his own.
Heesung still had work left to do ,before he was free to go. He had to clean the rest of the tables and then wash the dishes from today's dinner.
His friends offered to help him but he refused. He preferred doing it alone, he also knew that with Jay, Ni-ki and Sunghon, it will be even harder to get anything done, they love messing with each other and it will just take him longer to finish the cleaning.
