( cruel summer ── taylor swift )
❛ devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes
what doesn't kill me makes me want you more ❜the morning blossomed into a nice and sunny day, but almost every day in cousins beach was a nice and sunny day. it rarely rained, sadie hated that a little bit. she was a fan of rain and stormy weather. it always brought her some comfort.
there was a week of rain one summer, it was probably sadie's favourite. they spent that week mainly in the house playing board games and watching old classics. the movie marathons with the mothers was one of her favourite activities, it brought her a sense of closeness and home.
she didn't like them anymore, at least that's what she told herself. she wasn't sure was she ready to have a movie night with laurel, susannah and the girls, she was pretty sure she would just start crying on the spot. it's the reason why susannah and laurel haven't pushed it the first night and insisted that the crawford sisters go to the bonfire.
when the clock hit two, sadie was out of the house. jeremiah's magic potion had worked and she wasn't all too hungover anymore. her head didn't hurt and she was actually in a good mood. her initial plan for the day was to stay in her bed, mop, wait for jeremiah to get back from work and then maybe make him go on a night swim with her. but, she changed her mind.
the house was empty, she noted once she went down the stairs. sadie wasn't sure where everybody went, but she didn't question it that much. piper was out with someone, she knew that much. the older sister didn't take the car so sadie found the car keys and left. her next and final destination was the country club.
finally getting her driver's license definitely paid off. it used to suck, begging laurel, katherine and susannah to take them everywhere. they would ask so many questions, unnecessary questions at that. it used to be such a procedure that the kids eventually gave up and made plans that are only a reasonable walking distance away. but now, almost everyone could drive and were free to go where they wanted.
she arrived at the country club shortly. she didn't go there very often, but it always looked the same. actually, almost every country club looked the same, she guessed that they just had some sort of blueprint they strictly went by.
entering the pool area she was immediately hit with a wave of familiar faces. nobody paid attention to her though. to her luck, everyone was too preoccupied with their own business to look her way, and she didn't mind.
she found an empty pool chair under a big sun umbrella in the shade. the few times that they went to the country club when she was a kid were fun, she reminisced. it was a place to play with a bunch of other kids and watch rich people look posh and laugh at them.
