the day was nearing its end, jeremiah and piper were making their way out of the country club. of course, they were there for different reasons, the fisher boy was there for his job as a lifeguard while the crawford girl was there to practice for the deb ball with sienna and the rest of the debs.
they fell into comfortable small talk as they walked to piper's car. they politely asked each other about their day, occasionally laughing when the other one told a funny anecdote. it was nice to see that even after so many years they had no trouble falling into their usual routine.
after putting some of their things in the trunk, they sat in the car with piper in the driver's seat and jeremiah in the passenger seat. piper put the keys in the ignition but didn't start the car just yet. the boy watched her latch onto the key but not actually turn it to start the car, his eyebrows furrowed.
"i'm going to be very short," piper spoke, her eyes narrowing at the fisher boy, "if you hurt my little sister, i'll bury you." a simple threat, one the younger fisher boy wasn't planning on taking lightly. if jeremiah was being honest, piper hope crawford scared him to death.
piper had always been a wild card, you never knew what to expect from her. but, no matter how, sometimes, her words and actions were out of pocket she had a good heart and was always there for the people she loved.
charmingly smiling at the older crawford girl, he spoke, "duly noted." all jokes aside, the last thing jeremiah wanted to do was hurt, sadie. he waited for this opportunity far too long and loved her far too much to risk messing something up.
"what are your plans for the date tonight?" just hours before, jeremiah had asked sadie on their first official date. "i was thinking maybe a beach picnic." shaking her head in mild disappointment the girl finally turned on the car.
"no, no, no," piper shook her head, "you guys do that all the time. it gonna feel like an everyday hangout." jeremiah closely listened. he had thought about that, but the beach was their thing. it was time for piper to take things into her hands, "okay, here is what you're gonna do."
meanwhile, at the summer house, conrad and sadie were about three hours into their dance practice for the deb ball. due to sadie's previous ballet background, it was easy for her to learn all the necessary moves but due to her dislike for dancing, she wasn't having the time of her life.
"thanks for doing this for me," she told the fisher boy as they danced to the slow music in the background. conrad was focused on the next steps, "it's no problem sades," he faintly smiled. it was an interesting evening. conrad and sadie hadn't hung out just the two of them in years.
but that didn't really matter. sadie knew conrad better than most. they had grown up, they were practically different people now but something about their eyes stayed the same. something was bothering conrad, she noted that a long time ago.
the song that was playing came to an end causing them to stop. "i think that's enough for the day." taking her water bottle from the counter the crawford girl nodded her head. they lingered around the kitchen, neither of them speaking. sadie wondered how to approach conrad to open up a little.
from the moment the crawford sisters came to cousins sadie could tell conrad was carrying something around with him. something was weighing heavy over his head, he was having trouble being the conrad they all knew and loved though he did slip in here and there.
putting the water bottle back down, she spoke, "you know you can tell me if something is bothering you?" a beat of silence followed as sadie watched his back, he was turned away from her. "what?" conrad closed the refrigerator door. turning around to face the girl he acted confused, "there's nothing bothering me sadie."
sighing deeply she walked over to where he was standing. "connie," she put her hands on her shoulders, "you know you can't lie to me." he opened his mouth to protest but was cut off immediately, "look, if something is on your mind that you need to talk to, i'm here."
he, again, tried to protest, "oh, and i don't give some bs 'ohitsaboutagirlandallthatteenageangst' i know you better than that." taking her hands away from his shoulders she hit him, "and if it is about a girl then get your shit together for god's sake. she's not worth it."
conrad chuckled, "it's not really about a girl."
she raised an eyebrow, "i don't beleve that entirely," she knew him and belly were... actually she wasn't sure what exactly they were, just that they were something. "seriously, what is it?"
her eyes were pleading, a sense of comfort in them like it was safe to voice all of his concerns. and for a moment he thought that sadie was the right person to tell everything. who would understand better than her? "it's about mo-"
"what's up bitches? we're back?" jeremiah and piper sang entering the house. the moment of comfort was gone. that was a sign from the universe, he was supposed to keep this in.
