everyone was up early to get ready for the fourth of july. sadie struggled to get out of bed, her mind was plagued by the memories of the past. she was the last one to get up and go downstairs.

"dad's ten minutes away," piper informed her sister as soon as she walked downstairs. sadie simply nodded her head, still slightly out of it. the day was going to be way too long for her liking. everything was prepared, and the summer house was decorated with red, white and blue decorations. different foods were on display, others were still in the kitchen cooking and baking.

everyone greeted the girl with soft good morning wishes which she returned. the last person she came face to face with was jeremiah, she wasn't prepared to see him. he was carrying some towels outside, and once he passed her and their eyes met, just as she thought she remembered the previous night.

flashes of the kiss screamed in her mind. she usually forgot things that happened when she was drunk, but the kiss? that kiss she could not forget. it was engraved in her mind, constantly replaying.

jeremiah stopped in his tracks his breath hitched as he too felt the previous night come to life. he gulped, "good morning!" jeremiah smiled, his smile was forced and unsure. sadie cleared her throat, "hi!" her voice came out all high-pitched. they both laughed.

"here, let me help," she offered, taking a few towels from the top of the stack jeremiah was carrying. he hummed a response, not taking his eyes off of her. he felt mesmerised. the boy couldn't stop thinking about her lips on his, the way they felt. the way they fit perfectly with his. the way they moved was perfectly in sync with his.

they made their way to the pool, putting the towels down. a certain awkwardness lingered in the air. they were both unsure, of what to do and what to say. how to continue forward? the questions were pretty heavy on both of their chests. jeremiah couldn't help but wonder did the kiss ruined the friendship they've worked so hard to build. was it all gone now?

neither of them dared to bring it up. neither of them dared to acknowledge what happened. the pair in a silent agreement to pretend nothing happened, only something did happen. something happened and the things just weren't the same, nor will they ever be.

"sadie dad's here!" piper's loud yell broke the spell. it seemed like the older crawford girl often did that, stopping things from going further. sadie gave jeremiah a tight-lipped smile and made her way outside.

andrew was the first one to arrive, as always. they weren't sure how he'd always manage to arrive first. when the girls were younger sadie was convinced her dad had some kind of superpower that helped him come so quickly.

the man parked his car and made his way out. his daughters waited for him by the front door with laurel and susannah shortly behind. the man had a smile on his face, a forced smile nonetheless. much like his daughters, it was his first time back to cousins after his wife's death too.

emotions were swirling in his chest. memories of katherine flashed in his mind as he drove. every corner of cousins beach held a memory with his wife he wasn't ready to relive.
