one fist fight and a lot of beer later the group of teenagers found themselves being escorted to the summer house by the police due to underage drinking. to their horror, laurel was the one who greeted them. "officers, thank you," she thanked the two once they explained the situation. "it won't happen again, i can promise you that much."

"tell mr. fisher the chief wants to set up a tee time when he gets back in town," the male officer told. laurel smiled fakely, "absolutely. sorry again for all the trouble. have a good night, officers." she closed the door behind the law enforcement.

the kids shared looks among themselves, preparing for a long lecture by the woman. steven, belly, jeremiah and piper who had joined them at the last minute stood in a half-circle while conrad and sadie sat on the divan. the older fisher boy was a little tipsy, not completely drunk, but the girl was wasted. sadie wasn't able to register what was happening, her mind was cloudy, and she really was pushing it with the beer.

"how could you guys be so irresponsible?" they didn't miss the disappointment in the woman's voice. her arms were crossed. steven spoke first, immediately coming to everyone's defence, "mom, it wasn't a big deal. all right? seriously. the cops were just looking to break up the bonfire."

his mother scoffed, now waving her arms around in exclamation, "not a big deal? i would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, steven." the boy stepped forward, ready to argue when a certain smell caught his attention, "were-were you guys, you guys smoking tonight?" he accused.

"what?" laurel was taken aback but recovered quickly, "keep your voice down. susannah's asleep on the couch." steven furrowed his eyebrows, looking back at his peers in confusion, "well, i wasn't yelling. well, you-you-you were." jeremiah stepped forward too, now standing next to steven, "just so you know, laurel, i-i didn't drink tonight. i was the dd, i swear." the woman almost completely ignored jere's words.

"you're the oldest," she looked at conrad, "what the hell's gotten into you?" she spared a simple disappointed look at sadie who was still sitting next to the older fisher boy. "and when did you leave the house without telling anybody?" it was belly's turn to get scolded, "and what in the world are you wearing?"

"it's taylor's," the girl defended. she wrapped the hoodie, that didn't belong to her, closer around her body, "and why am i the only one who's not allowed to go out?" she soon shot back. laurel sighed, "it's not that you're not allowed, it's that you should have told us you were going. how did you even get there?"

belly hesitated, "i walked." her mother was at the loss of words, "jesus. you know better than to walk that far down the beach alone late at night." the girl was in a mood to argue about her rights, now that she was almost sixteen, "can you stop treating me like a kid?"

piper and steven shared a look, it was too late to start this argument. "if you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one." piper opened her mouth, ready to defend the girl, but she was beaten to it by none other than conrad, "then maybe you guys should, too."

laurel's gaze fell from belly to the boy, "what does that mean?" he simply shrugged, maybe he was too drunk to argue now. laurel continued, "i hope you realize this night could have ended a lot differently if your family wasn't your family."

"we're sorry, laur," jeremiah sent an apologetic look the woman's way. she sighed, "just... go to bed, guys." they listened to her. they all stood up and started making their way to the stairs. jeremiah helped sadie up, gently holding her so that she could walk. piper approached, ready to take the girl out of jere's hands and take the older sister's responsibility when laurel called out, "you two should stay."

everyone else was already long gone, except for jeremiah, piper and of course sadie. the two shared a look, they were in trouble. the boy let go of the girl and with a nod to laurel he made his way to the stairs, but he didn't go completely up, deciding to stay and eavesdrop.

"what the hell is going on with you two!?" she whisper shouted as soon as jeremiah was out of the earshot, or so she thought. sadie was leaning on the wall for support. "we're really sorry laurel," piper spoke in shame.

"how could you let her do this to herself?" the woman continued. piper didn't speak, she just looked at the floor, unable to look the woman in the eyes. it seemed that the conversation sobered the girl up, "you don't have to talk about me like i'm not here." she shot at the woman.

"sadie," laurel began only to be cut off by the girl. "i appreciate your concern laurel, but you're not my mother!" there she was again, breaking people's hearts with a hand full of words. laurel was aware that she wasn't the girls' mother, but she, along with susannah, were the only ones who cared enough to step up and give them the love they were missing.

laurel was left speechless and sadie didn't want to wait for a response. she pushed herself off of the wall and walked away to the back porch. "i'm so- i'm so sorry laur," piper sent an apologetic look. with a nod from the woman, she followed her sister out to talk to her.

laurel sat on the divan, her head in her hands. "you only mean well," jeremiah whispered. the woman jumped a little, she thought that the boy had gone to his room. tears prickled her eyes, "i just don't know how to help her," she admitted.

jeremiah took a seat next to her, "maybe she doesn't want help?" the boy suggested. laurel wiped the tear from her cheek, "you and her always had a good connection. could you try and talk to her? keep an eye on her, if anything?"

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ⎯⎯ㅤㅤNESSA'S NOTES!
new chapter, a little later than usual but it's still up. lowkey though i wouldn't have it out today at all.

i made a new cover, idk how i feel about it. it's definitely not the forever cover BUT we're getting there!!

i made a spotify playlist and the code is in the introduction chapter so if anyone is interested to save the playlist please do (also thank you to everyone who already saved it<3)

so glad i finally finished the first ep. (i did some math so each episode should have at least three chapters)

so, important question!
when i finish with season 1 where do you want the story to go??? like, do you want to wait for season 2 to come out for the story to continue? do you want the story to continue based off of books (i'm currently reading, lowkey procrastinating so that might take awhile)? do you want me to come up with the plot after season 1? do you want it to end with season 1 (with a few bonus chapters or something)??

if you have any ideas please lmk (i feel like I'm overthinking this so pls help!!)

hope this made sense lol. ANYWAY, don't forget to comment and vote if you liked it see you tomorrow with a new chapter!!!
