I shiver and rub my arms as I walk down the chilly halls of the castle towards the library. Why did Uncle Gaius have to send me at such an odd time in the night. It was 2 am and he had sent me to retrieve around 10 books about a plant. No one else was even awake at this time of night so why should I be. When I reached the large doors I decided to pull my hair out of the usual bun that I had it in. No one will be seeing me anyways. I struggled to open the large doors but I still managed it. Once I was in I looked down at the paper in my hand with the books that I needed to find.
"I don't even know where to find most of these!" I complained to myself.
That's when I noticed movement. A blonde head looked up from a book.
"Sire! I did not realize that you were in here." I said startled.
"It's fine. Would you like help looking for your books?" He stood and placed his now closed book on the table.
"Oh, no Sire. I can manage on my own." I protested as he walked towards me.
I hadn't realized that I was backing up until my back hit the door. He just laughed and came even closer to me. Then he took the paper from my hand and stepped back causing me to relax.
"I know where most of these are." He said turning away and walking towards a bookshelf.
"Thank you Sire." I whispered.
"You look good with your hair down." He said poking out from behind a shelf holding three books.
"Really? I hadn't thought that anyone would be in here so I just left it down." I could feel my face turn red.
"Third shelf in the middle. There will be a red book with black designs. Can you grab it?" Arthur said as he set more books on the table.
"Yes Sire." I moved from my spot to find the book he was talking about.
"And please, just call me Arthur. It is just the two of us in here." He walked up and stood behind me looking at the books just above my head.
"How many are left on the list?" I asked.
"Just this one. Here it is." He stepped right behind me so that his chest was against my back and reached around me to grab a dark red book.
He didn't move back once the book in his hand fell against his side and I didn't move to get away from him. He jumped away when the door opened though.
"Sire." The man said as he walked over to us and grabbed a book.
The man was gone as quick as he came and once the door was closed laughter was the only sound. I smiled at the laugh that I heard from Arthur. It was as though I was the only one to have ever seen this side of him.
"We should go. It's really late." He said sheepishly as he walked over to the table with the books for Gaius on it.
I followed him over and he stopped me just as I was about to pick up the large stack.
"Let me carry them. They are heavy."
"Thank you Arthur. For everything."
He leaned down and kissed me. It was quick and I could feel his hair tickle my face as he pulled away.
"Same time tomorrow night?" He asked as he picked up the stack of books.
I smiled and nodded then turned and followed him out of the room.
