Merlin hasn't spoken to me for days and I am really starting to worry about him. He has never been this quiet around me, Arthur or the knights. I really want to know what is wrong with him but at the same time I don't want to push him. It is weird going to sleep without him making sure that I am settled and warm.

"Do you know what is wrong with Merlin?" I asked Arthur when I him the breakfast that Merlin had failed to arrive with.

"About a year ago, Merlin and I were looking for the last dragonlord. I know that he was crying as the man died in his arms but I know nothing else." Arthur looked worried as well.

"Would you like me to try and see if I can get anything out of him?" I asked.

Arthur nodded, "You can both take a couple of days off as well. Go for a ride, maybe a picnic. Go back to your hometown and visit."

I smiled and thanked the young king and left the room.

That night I had just laid down in my cold bed and pulled the blankets up around me. I jolted up when the door opened and saw Merlin.

"Can I stay with you tonight?" he sounded scared as he walked closer.

His eyes were dull and had lost their sparkle. I nodded and slid over in the small bed to make room for him. He crawled into the bed with me and pulled me into him.

"You're freezing..." he said wrapping his arms around me.

"It has been cold all week." I said as I got comfortable.

"I'm sorry that I haven't been here. I've been dealing with something."

"You can tell me." I said looking up at him.

"Last year, Arthur and I had to look for the last dragon lord to stop a dragon from terrorizing Camelot. Before we left to find him, Gaius told me that he was my father. I never got to know him. He died saving my life." Merlin was crying at this point.

I gasped while looking at the candle behind him causing him to turn as well and look. There was a small dragon made out of the flames. I looked back at Merlin. He had to be responsible for this meaning that Merlin was a sorcerer.

"It's beautiful." I said looking back at him.

"You can't tell anyone. Especially Arthur." He was now sitting up and leaning on the headboard.

"I guess that you are going to have to make sure that I keep quiet then." He blushed at my comment.

It took him a minute to understand what I meant. Once he did actually understand though, he turned an even brighter shade of red, right to the tips of his ears. He pulled me on top of him causing a very undignified squeak to escape my lips. He smiled and his eyes seemed to regain their sparkle for a moment but then soon lost it again.

"Maybe we can ask Arthur for the day off tomorrow and we can go for a ride or a picnic?" he asked.

"We could go down to the waterfall for lunch and relax for a while." I added.

Merlin smiled again. This time he seemed happy. I returned the smile and got comfy again, now warm and relieved that Merlin had confided in me. He pulled me close to him and the both of us closed our eyes and drifted off into sleep.
