authors note - Okay yall I need to make something clear if you dummies didn't read the title. This is not Ellie's POV. This is not Alexander's POV. This is a new man who's a part of the story who yall just haven't met yet. His name is Enzo and he is very lovely. Glad I got that introduction done, don't worry you'll love him. K byeeee
I had always loved swimming, cold water especially. Growing up, I had a lot of pressure put on me, and one day I realized that if I was underwater, I couldn't hear any of the yelling, and no one would go looking for me. Ever since, I wake up every morning and swim.
Our lives, Alexander, Vince, and I's, have been quite boring recently. Not that I cared. Alexander's childhood was quiet, for the most part. Yes, it was hard; I'm not trying to take that away from him, but it was nothing like Vince's and I's. That's why we're handling the quiet better, I guess. When you grew up in noise, quiet is welcome.
Vince isn't handling it as well as me though, that's for sure. He was never a very curious man, sticking to what he knew best; working out, and working. I've grown to see that he likes the quiet of it, he's not enjoying how boring his life is. He likes to indulge, and when there's nothing to indulge in, he becomes rather aggressive.
Vince also likes competition. It was something he was best at. When there's a challenge, Vince wins. Unfortunately, his side of the AVE business has been exceptionally successful for the past few years. Security was his forte, and Alexander and I often joked that he was the best bodyguard on the planet, but he would rather have an opponent than be a monopoly in the security business.
Me on the other hand, I was handling my boring routine quite well. I get up at 6 am exactly, make an omelet, go down to the hotel's pool and do laps for 2 hours before it opens to the public, and then head over to the office and work from 9 to 5. I head home and cook dinner for us three, and then I either swim more or just go to bed. I love my routine, and I love how no matter what, nobody can stop me. I'm alone most of the time, and I've never been happier.
It's around 8:45, so I get out of the pool now. I had done more than a couple of laps, I suppose it's time I head to the office. The water ripples around me as I leave the pool, grabbing a towel and quickly drying myself off. My hair was long enough to tickle my shoulders as I bent down to grab my phone to call Xander.
It rang for longer than normal until he finally picked up. "Hey man can't talk for long, kinda busy."
"Liar, you're never busy," I take my towel with me as I start to make my way to the elevator.
"Yeah well, I am now. I'm at a bakery or coffee shop or something."
"Oh? What are you getting?"
He responds quickly, "Hopefully the waitress."
I laugh. "Oh? You're normally not interested in random girls."
"You'd know what I mean if you saw her. She's like...radiant, I don't know how else to explain it."
"Radiant?" I laugh again. "God, you're such an English professor."
"I'm a psychology professor."
I roll my eyes. "Sorry, Xander, forgot that you detest the English department."
"They're annoying and I'm justified to ridicule them behind their backs."
"Yeah yeah, I get it. Next time I'll go with you, maybe then I get to witness you asking her out."
"Not if you don't first, I know how you are." I hear a commotion in the background of the phone call. "I have to go threaten someone, call you back later." I chuckle quietly as he ends the call, and make my way back into our shared apartment.
I quickly put on one of my suits and head over to the office. As I enter our shared office space on the top floor, I see Vincent in his office, reading the newspaper and sipping on his black coffee. He also wore a suit, though it was entirely black. He had a bored expression on his face, his eyes unfocused on the newspaper, not caring to read it.
I take a seat next to him and start to fill out some reports. "Anything excited?"
His eyes don't move from the paper. "Nope. Anything with you?"
I look out at the city below our building, not entirely content with my answer. "No."
Maybe I lied before when I said I wasn't bored. I liked the quiet, I did. Maybe not being so bored would be nice. Then I think back to my call. "Actually, I had a call with Xander today, it was a little weird."
Vincent sets his paper and coffee cup down, questioningly, listening intently.
I continue, "He was at a bakery next to the college, and he seemed enthralled in the waitress, of all people." I slightly smile. "He called her 'radiant.'"
Vincent snorts. "That's weird, he's normally not like that."
"That's what I said. Then he hung up on me." He raised his eyebrows now, like it was the hottest gossip of the season.
Suddenly, Xander came through the door with energy that I hadn't seen in him in a couple of years, with a few boxes that clearly had pastries, croissants, and coffees.
Vincent says, "You know we already had breakfast, right?"
I raise an eyebrow at him. "When you left the building today, you said you were getting one croissant, maybe two."
Alexander groans and places them on the desk in front of us, Vince clearly unhappy about us all being in his space. Alexander rubbed a hand down his face, accidentally catching one of his brown curls. "I couldn't resist. She was...captivating."
Vince and I share a look, and he looks away from me to Xander. "Who?" Sneaky bastard.
"The waitress. I don't know her name, but the child in the shop called her Lili, so I'm going with that for now."
"For now?"
"Oh I'm going back every day now, and not just for her, these croissants are fucking amazing."
I quirk my head slightly and decide to try them for myself, reaching forwards to the boxes, but Xander stops me.
"Hold up, she made personalized boxes for each of us, I'll get yours." Vince and I share another look, confusion written on our faces, until Xander comes back into my view with my pastry and coffee, handing Vince his as well. We both taste them, and I'll admit, they were fucking good.
Alexander leaves for his classes, and a couple of hours go by. Vince and I get some paperwork done, and by 4 pm, we're both just mindlessly signing things. That is, until Alexander comes back into the office with a gigantic smile on his face.
Vince asks, "What are you all happy about?"
He just smiles like a lovesick puppy, walking over to the window and looking down at the city. What a drama queen.
"She's one of my students."
