"Ya Ady, your flight takes off in four hours..." Laila said, stating the obvious like she was giving the news. Her brother gave her a bored look, his attention fixed on the road.

"What's next on the list?" he asked, clearly uninterested in the countdown. It wasn't like he was in a rush to leave anyway.

"Ohh, don't be so boring... lemme see," she scrolled through her phone, "just need to pick up Mom's fruit as promised, then we're done."

They'd been out all morning ticking things off Laila's wish list, with Khairiya tagging along.

"Don't you think we should call Kaltoom? At least so you guys can talk before you leave?" Laila teased, that mischievous smirk pulling at her lips.

Adyan smirked too, though his eyes stayed on the road. "She'll be there for the departure. No need to disturb her."

"And she didn't care to tell me... and you too, ya Khair, did you know?" Laila asked, spinning to glare at Khairiya.

Khairiya just rolled her eyes. "Quit blabbing. Yaya, can we stop at Smart kids, please? I want their creamy Shawarma." She pouted dramatically.

"I don't have much time. I can't miss my flight," Adyan warned.

"And ice cream, Yaya, pleaseee. We won't waste your time, pinky promise," Laila added, matching her sister's pout.

He sighed. "Fine, five minutes. Wait, what happened to the ice cream we already bought?"

Before he could finish, the girls had bolted out of the car.

Seven minutes later they came skipping back with bags stuffed full of ice cream. Laila grinned as she handed him his credit card back like she'd done something noble.

Adyan was already on a call, distracted. "Yeah... I'll be back before you know it. Just keep anticipating."

Laila frowned, curiosity spiking. Who was that? Adyan didn't have any girlfriends, not that she knew of.
