Adyan's POV

The drive back from Kaltoom's home felt longer than usual heavy, quiet, and soaked in disappointment. The evening sky mirrored my mood: grey clouds gathering, ready to pour their frustrations down just like the thoughts crowding my head.

I had looked forward to this visit all day. A single glimpse of her would've been enough her smile, her voice, her energy. But no. I missed her. The maid's words replayed like a broken record: "She's not around."

Not around? Where could she have gone?

I gripped the steering wheel tighter, exhaling slowly. I had something for her a small gift, nothing dramatic but it meant something. I wanted to see her reaction, see her eyes light up the way they always did. Now, all that anticipation was useless.

It'd only been days since I last saw her, but it felt like weeks. Funny how love does that makes time stretch painfully long when you're apart. I didn't even realize when she became my peace, my person.

The city lights blurred past the windshield, the drizzle turning into a rhythmic rain. My thoughts drifted to her family to her mom, who was going through so much, and to her trying to hold it all together. She had always been strong, stronger than she realized. I admired that. And even though I couldn't fix her problems, I wanted to at least be the calm in her storm.

The rain thickened, hitting the car roof like heartbeats. I sighed. Whatever's going on in her home... I just hope it doesn't come between us. The idea of losing her made something twist inside my chest.

Ya Allah, I whispered under my breath, make it easy for her. For both of us.

A crack of thunder tore through the silence, echoing the mess inside me. I prayed again this time quietly, without words just emotion.

My phone buzzed against the console. Zain's name flashed across the screen. Business, probably. I rolled my eyes and turned the car towards the office. If I couldn't see her tonight, I'd bury myself in work at least until the ache dulled a little.

The rain had just begun when Kaltoom and Afeeyah returned home, drenched in laughter and exhaustion.

"Alhamdulillah, we made it before the heavy one starts," Kaltoom said, shaking droplets off her Bubu gown.

Shatu appeared from the hallway. "Welcome back, Someone dropped a package for you earlier. It's in your room."

Kaltoom's eyes widened slightly. She didn't need to ask who it was from. She just prayed Ammi or Khalid hadn't found it first. Those two could sniff out secrets faster than gossip traveled in this house.

As she climbed the stairs, her mind wandered not to Adyan yet, but to Farouk and Amani. She still couldn't wrap her head around those two being a couple. "Their kids would be chaos and cuteness combined," she muttered with a smirk.
