Chapter 2

Star's P.O.V.

I dialed Oscar's number. My heart was pounding so hard through my chest, it might as well had flown out. I really hoped that he would say yes when I asked him to go to the dance with me. I heard the phone ring 2 times before he picked up.
"Hello?" He asked in his adorable phone voice. I was silent for a second. I was so nervous to talk to him. "Hello?" He asked again.
"Hiiiiiiiiiii." I said. "Soooo, I wanted to ask you something." I told him in a flirty voice. "Ummmmm. Do you want to go to the dance with me?" I waited for his response.
"Uh, sure."
I did the best I could to hold in my excitement. "Okee Dokee. Byyyye." I hung up. "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" I was jumping up and down on my bed. Marco came into the room. I was still jumping and screaming with excitement when he came in.
"So, how'd it go?" He teased.
"What do you think?" I said with a goofy looking smile on my face.
"Well, congrats!"
"Aww, thanks Marco."
"Um, Star, can you help me with the love spell thing?"
"Oh yeah," I say less excitedly. "Let's go."

Marco's P.O.V.
I was very happy for Star. She was officially going to the dance with Oscar. I just hoped that this whole love spell thing would work. However for some reason it still felt wrong. Maybe I shouldn't do this. Maybe I could just go to the dance alone. You know just awkwardly hide in the bathroom and sob during the slow dance, that should be fun. There was no way I was gonna be the only guy there without a date.
"So Star, what should I do exactly."
"Just say whatever is written in the book," she explained as she handed me the giant spell book she had. She kind of sounded mad at me for some reason.
"Okay, should I try it on something."
"Oh yeah, here give me the wand," Star took the wand from me. She just made a tiny floating smiley face. "Okay," she said in an unenthusiastic tone. "Aut te amare." (Which according to Google Translate means "you are in love" but I doubt that's correct. Sorry if it's not.) The smiley face didn't respond. Star tried it again, but it didn't work. She tried it about 4 more times, and almost set the house on fire.
"Let's go outside," I suggested. We walked to the back yard, where there was lots of space, so we didn't have to worry about making the house explode.
"Aut te amare." All of a sudden, the smiley face's doted eyes became heart shaped. For some reason it grew a mustache, and started to laugh and float closer to Star. She zapped it away before it got any closer. "So do you want to try?" She asked while holding out the wand.
"Sure," I replied. "Can you bring back one of the smiley things again?" She zapped one, but this time it had a bow, that's good. "Aut te amare." Nothing happened. I tried about 10 more times, and nothing happened. I expected to try more times than Star did, but I was starting to get frustrated.
"Hey Star, how many more times do you think I'll have to try in order to get this spell to work?"
"I don't know. Why do you want to put a love spell on Jackie anyway?"
"You don't understand Star. At least you have the confidence to at least talk to Oscar. I can barely breathe when I see Jackie. She is one of the most popular girls in school, and I barely even have a chance with her. But I've had a crush on her for years, and I really want to go with her. I'm afraid that if I ask her, she'll say no. I'd ask you to go to the dance with me as friends, but you're already going with Oscar. I don't want to be the only guy going to the dance alone."
"Oh," she seemed to feel kind of bad for me. "Just keep trying, and I guarantee it will work."
"Okay. Aut te amare." It worked! The girl smiley face's eyes turned into pink hearts. I think the thing was flirting with me, it felt really weird. "Yes!" I yelled. "Um, can you zap this thing away? I weirding me out."
"Oh yeah," she took the wand from me and zapped the face away. "There you go."
"Thanks Star."
"You're welcome." She skipped back into the house.

Star's P.O.V.
I went back into my room. I was gonna take a nap because school today was pretty exhausting. So I fell back onto my bed, and put my head on my nice fluffy pillow. All of a sudden, I heard Marco's phone ring. Space unicorn, flying through e sky, delivering the rainbows all around the woooooorld. I looked to see who was calling. IT WAS OSCAR! "Hello?" I said eagerly.
"Hey. Star? I'm sorry, but I cannot go the dance with you."
I was silent. He couldn't go to he dance with me? My eyes started to tear up.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because Jackie-Lynn Thomas asked me out, and she is, uh, more popular, and knows more people than you. It's really the only way I can have a good start with my record. So um, yeah. Sorry and bye."
I could feel my heart being ripped out of my chest, thrown onto the ground, and being stomped on and broken into a million pieces. I started sobbing into my pillow. All of a sudden, I heard the door open.
"Hey Star, do you want to go and," he stopped talking, and walked closer. "Are you crying?" I looked up from the pillow. My eyes were red, and my face was wet from the tears. He gave me a big hug and asked, "why are you crying?"
"Oscar called and said he couldn't go to the dance with me," I explained between sniffles. "Some other girl asked him out, and being she was more popular than I was he said yes, and cancelled his plans with me."
He squeezed me tighter. "Star, that is terrible. Do you know who asked him out?"
Oh no. I couldn't tell him about Jackie. It would break his heart. If I felt this heart broken over someone who I've had a crush on for a month, I couldn't imagine how terrible he'd feel about the girl he has had a crush on for years. I would never want my best friend to hurt like that. "He didn't say."
"It's okay, he's just a really dumb guy." We just stood up and hugged for a long time while I cried on his shoulder. Marco Diaz is indeed the best friend I could ever have.
