Marco's POV
"Marco, I love you too."
We intimately looked into each other's eyes. Now that I was allowed to stare into her eyes like this I could finally appreciate the true beauty of them. Not only their color, the sky blue of her eyes has been ingrained in my mind ever since the first time I saw them, but I was able to see her soul. I know that sounds really cheesy but there was just something different from when I was looking into her eyes during the dance. They had less of a mischievous glint to them, they were gentler, kinder, more aware of what was happening. They were beautiful as always, but this time they looked like they belongs to the real Star Butterfly, my Star Butterfly. And while I was looking into her eyes, she was looking into mine, almost like she was searching for something. For what, I didn't know, but before I could figure it out, Star's mouth twisted upwards and she began to laugh.
"Star, why are you laughing?" I asked with both confusion and amusement.
"I don't really know," she said between chuckles. "It's a lot of different things I guess. Relief that I finally have control of myself again, joy cause for some amazing reason you actually love me back, and embarrassment, lots of embarrassment. Marco, I was so cringey!"With that I started to laugh as well. "Star, I think we were both pretty cringey."
"Marco I'm pretty sure I was WAY worse than you. I was the one who called you hot stuff!"
"I was the one who tried to use a love spell! That's super creepy oh my god!"
"I made all of those awful kissing puns!"
"I actually found those kissing puns funny!"
"I squeezed your butt!"
I was silent after that one, touché Butterfly."Wow, we were awful."
"Yeah we were," Star said adding in another chuckle.
"Now that everything's back to normal we can be less cringey."
"Is everything back to normal though?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean some things have changed. For example, I can do this now." Star leaned in and gently kissed me. It was soft but I could still feel her smile.
She pulled away and while I was completely aware of how badly I was blushing, I didn't care.
"I guess you're right, things have changed. Also now I can ask you out on an actual date, and I can ask you to officially be my girlfriend."
"Hmm," Star pretended to contemplate her answer. "I would be honored to go on a date with you and to officially be your girlfriend."
"I'm incredibly happy to hear that."
"Now Marco, do you wanna go back inside? We have like 5 more minutes until the dance ends, let's make the most of it."
"Yeah sure, let's go inside."
We walked back into the school hand in hand, happy to finally be able to be with each other after everything we've been through. And as we entered the gym full of people, the only person I was able to see was Star.
The end (for real this time).
Hey guys it's been awhile! I kinda felt bad for ending this story the way I did so I wanted to add a little bit more and I really hope that you've enjoyed it. It's been a little more than a year since I wrote the final chapter and when I was rereading this I often found myself cringing because of how awful it was. The writing, the dialogue, even the plot itself was pretty cringe worthy looking back. However, I don't want to change it because as I continue to write I want to be able to look back and see how much I've improved. Finally, when I was writing this story the feedback that I got was honestly so validating and inspired me to write. Everyone was so nice and continued to push me forwards and for that I can't thank them enough. Now I can finally put this book to rest, as it is finally completed. Thank you guys for everything!!!
