A small match was lit, illuminating the dark room. I re opened my eyes. The door was now closed, only the front of the room was visible due to Wadim's candle light. My eyes looked at the boxes, now realizing that they were not boxes, but oddly shaped coffins. I looked around once more, hoping to find Rowena, or at least figure out where she was hiding. However, she remained out of sight.
The teen began his search. His hands swiftly opening the lids and covers to all the coffins. Some occasionally revealing a dead animal or the bones of the deceased. I held my breath, not knowing if his senses would be able to pick up on something as important as air. Wadim tsked.
"Little prince, why do you insist on hiding?" He questioned. His hand opening yet another coffin. As the lid slid opened. A large spider jumped out. Scurrying to another hiding spot. Clearly as afraid of the man as I was. "I have only showed you nothing but the best hospitality, have I not?" He asked again. Expecting some sort of answer from me.
He began to move towards a large closet. Keeping his foot steps hidden. If it weren't for the small crack, I wouldn't have been able to see him.Or have the slightest idea as to where in the room he was. His hand slowly grasped onto the old door knob, remaining silent. With a quick flick of his wrist, the door opened revealing nothing except the darkness inside. His head looked inside. Using his one match as his only source of light.
"How about you just stop this game of hide and seek, we can go see the garden." He mentioned, moving his head out of the closet. My eyes took notice of the blood lightly dripping from his head. Most likely from the impact. "No? How about the library?" He asked again. Keeping his voice low and calm. Like he was talking to frightened animal.
His legs carried him to the closet on the opposite side. Repeating the same quiet movement as before. Once again he opened the door to find nothing. My eyes spotted movement close to the closet. Just barley to the seeker's right was a small space. That was blocked by a large wooden chest. As I looked closer, I noticed Rowena's form. Her breathing very light and quick. From the looks of it, her previous transformation had taken most of her energy. There was no telling what would happen to her if found.
To my horror Wadim made his way towards the chest. As if he was reading my mind. His hand reached out to open the lid. Another spider rushed out. This time leaving the room from under the door. Not wanting to deal with something more frightening then it's own kind. My heart began to beat faster as he realized there was room to hide behind the large object. The sound of my hearts beating ran through my ears. As the vampire started to slowly peak over. Out of fear, I jumped slightly from the adrenalin. Making my hand hit a sharp stray piece of wood.
"Ouch." I harshly whispered. Slowly examining the new open wound. My senses picked up on the small drop of blood dripping from my new injury. My eyes looked up, my blood running cold at the sight in front of me. Wadim had most likely heard my mistake. Now, he was standing and on my side of the room. I felt a sense of relief that he had not found Rowena. Especially in her state. However and whole new sense of fear flooded through me.
"Marc," The possessive vampire spoke. Now a little too close to my hiding spot. "You're bleeding." He pointed out. stepping closer to the only source of protection. I inwardly gulped. Closing my eyes, and silently praying that the monster that my other self had tried so hard to escape was now directly in front of me.
"You know, I really must commend you on choosing such a hiding place." He mumbled his movements silent. "I wouldn't had looked in this room first, if it wasn't for you somewhat peaked interest from before." A shiver ran up and down my spine. I re opened my eyes to see two violet eyes staring directly in the crack. His hand slowly reach out to pull open the lid.
