Chapter VIII

"Okay Anya, Franky may have to pick you up later cause papa needs to do something but I promise that it will only be a short while and I'll come back before dinner okay?" Loid said as he crouched down to Anya's height

It was the start of a new week and although Loid was still on his day-offs he was needed at the hospital which Anya understood, after all she has gotten used to having her father's friend Franky – she called him uncle Scruffy – be her companion almost everyday so she nodded to her father's words

"Thank you, I'll bring you a present for being a good girl when I come home okay?" Loid said as he patted Anya's hair

Anya was a little confused about the present since as far as she could remember and know, her birthday was still a bit far away so she believed that there was no reason for such, nonetheless she nodded and turned to walk to her classroom saying a small "byebye" before she walked away

Reaching her school's entrance, she turned back to her father and saw him still there though he now gave a small wave so she waved back before fully turning to walk to her class

' Papa's weird ' was her last thought before she reached her class.

"I'm really sorry for asking you to come when it is your day-off Dr. Loid" a beautiful redhead woman said as she took the patients' reports Loid handed

"It is not a problem Dr. Sherwood, I know and understand the sacrifices of our job" Loid said as he awaited for his boss's permission to leave

"I heard that your daughter came the other day, how is she? It has been a long time, the last I saw her was when she last came to visit isn't?" She asked, her expression turning somber as memories came to mind

Loid's expression stayed as emotionless as he could, the occurrence of that day still somehow vivid in his mind but not as hurtful as the ones that came after. He had loved his wife, he really did but things came that lead to how everything was now and all that has remained was the guilt for not acting sooner, not totally for his wife but more for his daughter

"I apologize for bringing up the past, Dr. Loid you can take your leave now if there are no more works awaiting you, I'll see you next week " Ms. Sherwood said mistaking Loid's silence but Loid said nothing to correct her and just nodded before turning to leave.

Loid sighed as he exited the hospital's grounds but could not take a further step when his phone rang

"Yes?..... What? Where?!.... I'm coming!"

' Anya! '
