Buckys pov I sit outside the bathroom waiting for her to finish readying for the last appointment for our son when I hear something wet hit the floor and her gasp. "Jo?" I ask and she lets out a yell in pain. I burst in the bathroom and she pants "he's coming" I nod and smile and pick her up and grab our bag we have ready for the occasion. We make it to the hospital and she's taken from me and I take the short time of me putting on scrubs and whatnot to notify tony. "What is it? I can't talk right now. You know who is close" he whispers. I say "the baby is coming. Her water broke" he sounds excited "great! I'll be there as soon as I can" and hangs up. I meet her and sit by her with ice chips in a cup and a cool rag as she pants. I kiss her temple holding her hand "you got this sweetheart. I'm here for you okay? You're gonna hurt but seeing our son will be worth it okay? Don't be shy to squeeze the hell outta my hand doll"
She nods and the doctor comes in and checks her. She's not fully dilated yet. The doctor asks if she'd like an epidural and she denies it. I ask her gently "are you sure doll?" She nods "yeah" with a smile and I kiss her gently. The doctor leaves us and she smiles "our baby boy will be here soon" I nod with a smile "we're going to be parents"
"I couldn't have done this without you james...really" she says. I say "sure you could've. You're an amazing and strong woman. You did all the work I was just here for support" she says "and I thank you for that" "there's no need to thank me doll. I love you. And I love Anthony as well. There's nothing I wouldn't do for the two of you" I reply. She smiles "I love you" I kiss her again happy that we're going to have our son in our arms.
I break the kiss and she asks "what?" As I just take her in. I take her hand "I know this is gonna sound a bit nuts to you but-" she cuts me off "what is it James?" I just blurt it out "marry me" she's in shock. But it breaks when a contraction hits and she winces and squeezes my hand tightly. The doctor comes in and checks her "you're ready" nurses come in and I coach her to the best of my ability, my heart breaking seeing her pain for hours on end.
I freeze hearing a cry. He's here. Anthony james barnes is here. My shock moves to worry hearing a monitor go flat and she goes limp. No. Tears well at my eyes as I shout "Jo?! JO!" I'm tugged out the room and a woman says "we need space to do what we need to do we're going to do what we can" what the fuck just happened?!
"Bucky" its tony. "Hey man what's going on? Is the baby okay? Is Josie okay?" He asks. I wipe a tear that falls "I didn't even get to see him. But I heard him. He seems to be okay. I-I think so anyway" "and Jo?" He asks and I shake my head "she...she flatlined...they removed me from the room and told me they'd do all they could but...I don't even know how it happened so quickly. One second she's pushing and smiles hearing his cry...the next she's just...gone" "Bucky look at me" he orders. And I do. "She's a stark. She's strong. She's going to make it through this" he tells me and I nod. And we wait. I don't know for how long. But someone comes out and I stand "you're the dad?" I nod "yeah"
"She's okay. She hemorrhaged and too quickly. She's awake and asking for you I assume" the doctor says and I nod walking in. I see her there looking tired holding our son. She looks beautiful. She smiles my way and moves over a bit and I sit next to her. I take in my son. He's perfect. She asks "want to hold him?" I nod and take him in my arms. I didn't know I could ever love like this until now. She says "Bucky?" I look at her and she nods "yes" and she adds "I'll marry you" my smile almost splits my face in half. I kiss her and I just...feel complete. I look at him "he's perfect"

She smiles "he is" tony comes in "I come baring gifts" with a gift basket for her and Anthony. Tony doesn't know we're naming him after him. She smiles "hi dad" he asks "how are you feeling? Gave barnes here a scare" she nods "I'm feeling a bit better. Gave me some blood and pain meds so I'm okay." He asks "what's the little guys name?" Coming over and I hand him over and she smiles "Anthony james barnes"
He asks "after everything you named your son after me?" His eyes soft. She nods "the past is the past. And...I wanted to do this" he smiles and starts to hold and talk to his grandson. It's a nice thing to see. I take out the box from my pocket and take her left hand and slide on her ring.
