The silent walk to Julie's house allowed me to be alone with my thoughts. We were actually about to kiss? I really liked Reggie, but was I ready to start a relationship with him? Was I even ready to start a relationship with anyone? What if Luke didn't come in and we did kiss, what would have happened after?
As my thoughts invaded my mind, I arrived at a certain girl's door. Out of habit, I tried knocking, but my hand just phased through, causing me to stumble into to young girl's room.
"Woah! Oh...um..hi," I greeted quietly. Julie was sitting on her bed, doing homework.
"Hi..." Julie said in a suspicious tone. "Not to be rude, but what are you doing here?"
"Look, I know we don't really know each other and I'm a ghost and all, but I just really need to talk to someone. I would usually talk to my sister, Beatrice, but now I don't think that's possible. I could leave, if you want," I rambled. My lack of social interactions in the past 25 years really tainted my communication skills.
Julie gave a small laugh, "Sure. I mean, If I were in your position, I'd probably want to talk about it, too."
"Oh, um... I didn't want to talk about, like, ghost stuff. I actually just needed to talk about..." I trailed off as I wandered through her room. "Boys..." I said with a sigh as I sat on a bean bag.
Giving a soft laugh, Julie sat up on her bed, turning to face me. "I may not be an expert, but I'll give it a shot."
"Reggie and I almost kissed," I finally blurted out. "But then Luke came in the garage, completely oblivous, and we awkwardly left and went our separate ways."
"I knew it!"
"What?"
"I knew you and Reggie had a thing!" Julie said excitedly. "The chemistry was there, the way he looks at you, the way you look at him."
I couldn't help but gape at Julie as she continued to rant on about Reggie and I.
"You two would make a perfect couple! Urg! Stupid Luke! How could he have ruined that moment," she continued.
Just then, there was a flash of light and Alex Mercer stood in the bedroom.
"Hold on, wait a minute, stop talking," the blonde interrupted, holding both hands up at Julie and I. "You and Reggie almost kissed?" He asked me. "And you went to Julie and not me? I mean, no offence Julie, but like, you would always come to me for things like this and we've only known Julie for like a day. Honestly, I'm kind of offended," he declarded, like the drama king he is, as he plopped down on the ground.
He rested his chin on his right hand and faced Julie, "Alright, continue."
Julie look flustered and surprised, but continued rambling on and on.
"Ok wait," I interrupted. "Why are you here?" I questioned Alex.
"Reggie found me outside the old skate park and told me everything. I poofed over here as soon as I could to talk to you. I guess we have a new member to our chats" Alex replied, motioning over to Julie.
"What did Reggie say?" I asked quietly
"He said that you almost kissed. Literally gave no details and was blushing like an idiot. He actually thinks Luke is going to kill him even though nothing happened," Alex explained breathlessly.
"Was he embarrassed?" I asked, mainly to myself. Maybe Reggie didn't mean anything by it. It was probably one of those 'heat of the moment' things, like with Luke in the 8th grade.
"Seriously? You're overthinking it, again," Alex observed, bringing me out of my trance. "Reggie likes you, he told me himself in 6th grade. He's just barely got the balls to do something about it. Seriously Jaiden, if I were you, I'd take action. I mean, we really don't have anything to lose at this point."
