True to her word, Katherine did not show up to school for the rest of the week. After his first period when he saw that she wasn't there each day, Eddie left school. He spent hours in his trailer debating on driving to her house and apologizing, but couldn't bring himself to do it. He didn't know what to say to her.
On Friday before he left, Eddie stopped Robin in the hall.
"What to you want, Munson?" Robin asked, crossing her arms. She hadn't heard from Katherine since she and Steve went over there.
"I need to talk to you. It's about Katie," Eddie said. Robin leaned against her locker in the now empty hallway. She gestured with her hand to allow him to speak.
"I need to know what she told you," Eddie stated. Robin sighed.
"She said that she went to your set and that she was going to talk to you guys after when you were packing. She stopped outside the door when she heard you guys talking. She said that she heard Gareth ask if you liked her and you said, and I quote, 'Of course not. Are you crazy?' Like seriously, you've spent all of this time acting like you like her then you go and admit that? That's fucked man."
Eddie ran his hands through his hair and banged his head against a locker.
"God damn it. GOD DAMN IT!" Eddie exclaimed. Robin raised an eyebrow at the older teen that was basically throwing a tantrum.
"I was lying, Robin. Of course I was lying. The guys were making fun of my apparently very obvious crush on her and so I denied it at first, but then I admitted it. She must have left before I did," Eddie explained. Robin's expression softened slightly. A moment later, Gareth happened to be walking down the hall.
"Gareth! Gareth come here!" Eddie exclaimed, waving his friend over. The junior walked over to Eddie and Robin and greeted them.
"What's up man?" Gareth asked.
"Tell her what I told you about Katherine," Eddie said, gesturing to Robin. She was still leaning against her locker. Gareth let out a chuckle.
"What, she doesn't believe you that you're like in love with her best friend. Seriously I feel like it's pretty obvious how much you like her," he said, making fun of his friend. Eddie gave Robin a pleading look.
"So it really was just a wrong place wrong time type of thing, huh?" Robin asked. Eddie nodded. She sighed once more. "Alright. I'll call her. Now go. Go talk to her. But Munson, you do something like that to hurt her again and I swear to God I will end you."
Eddie gave her a smile and clapped Gareth on the back before running off to his van. He immediately started it and drove off to her house while Robin left to go call Katherine. This left a very confused Gareth alone in the middle of the hallway, but he was glad that he was able to help.
Robin went around the school to where the pay phones were and dialed the number to Katherine's phone. She picked up on the last ring.
"Hello?" Katherine asked groggily. She must have just woken up.
"Hey Kit-Kat it's Robin. So, uh, I talked to Eddie and he's on his way to your house," Robin said, almost cowering away in fear of her friend's response.
"What? Why?" Katherine asked.
"Look, just hear him out. He talked to me this morning and even Gareth backed him up. Just... just listen to what he has to say," Robin pleaded. She was really hoping her friend would look past this so she could go back to being her somewhat happier self.
"Fine, whatever."
"Love you, Kat," Robin said.
"Love you too, Rob," Katherine said before hanging up. Robin then called Steve to get him up to speed.
