A jet pack! I pictured myself saying that out loud and thought of myself looking like a complete idiot. Needless to say I didn't even comment on the situation for risk of looking as such in front of my old friend's new foreboding appearance.

"What're you gawking at, man? Get that thing on! We need to move!" Jake commanded, snapping me out of my obnoxious stare.

"R-Right!" I say as I stammer trying to find the words to respond with whilst fumbling with the piece of equipment.

I finally get it on and instantly feel heavier and lose my balance for a few seconds.

Jake intervenes with my struggle. Straightening me so I'm balanced.

"If you're done messing around, I'll explain to you how to use it. That handle to your right. Press down on it to ascend into the air. If you need to go down, pull up on it. Now, if you need to turn, all that you have to do is lean in the direction of the turn. What I'll tell you next is kind of a feature I threw in there for you. It's only on that pack. See that button on the left handle? If you press it, it should completely kill your thrusters. Okay, that's about it. Are you ready to go?"

I am shaking like crazy. Not just because of the enormous amount of weight being pressed on me, but also being nervous about flying through the air. In I few days, it'll be my birthday. I'll be Eighteen. My parents and I had the plan for me to go skydiving the day of. I was going to jump out of a plane. With nothing more than a piece of fabric to stop my utter crash landing. Now, I'm nervous about flying up into the sky with a tremendous amount of control.

What the hell is wrong with me?
